The way this book is structured is very suitable for both self-studiers and those who want a great supplement. I have seen Barron's preparation books that sort of jump around and may not maintain a good focus on preparing you for the particular exam, but this one is excellently written, but only for those with a degree of calculus maturity (in any case, you should really only be taking Physics C when you reach such a stage). The structure: first, the basic equations are either introduced or, when appropriate for the reader, derived. These derivations are key, and are presented thoroughly but concisely. Then, there are samples that explore various hypothetical situations that are likely to come up in a college level physics free response exam -- there are also multiple choice, but the free response is really the more difficult portion. This part is especially commendable -- the different scenarios are neatly labeled in bold, and the explanations are excellent. Then, there are supplemental free response and multiple choice questions to exhaustively test your understanding of the theory learned. You really cannot ask for more -- if you know this book with confidence, you will score a 5, period. And really, developing this maturity means you will also develop problem solving skills that will really prep you for college. I think for mechanics, it might be useful to just look at a textbook's various problem selections, but for E&M, the problems are usually more 'classic,' meaning the selections in this book are perfect. E&M stresses challenging mathematical derivations, while mechanics stresses breadth of applications -- but trust me, you need more prep for E&M.
This book makes me think. But I would not recommend this book to those who didn't understand the basic concepts. This book should be used if you are aiming higher than a 3.
