How to Quit Drinking without AA: has easy to follow information on alcoholism and the steps to help become sober

When I decided to live my life without alcohol, I was afraid to become involved in a group, such as AA, with other people because I didn't want to become obsorbed in their issues and weaknesses. I already felt overwhelmed with mine. I needed to make this serious decision on my own, because no matter how much support I could receive or how much I could relate to a group of recovering alchoholics it all came down to what I knew was best for me. It was a personal decision that I had made. I had already quit for 1 month, when I was browzing through a book store and discovered this book. The title was perfect. I am not a person who likes to read, but I found this book very easy to follow and it seemed like all of the information related to my life - my life with my best friend 'alcohol'. I don't have anything against AA, 'whatever works'. This book helped me. After I read it I felt so strong. I have been sober now for 1 year 6 months, and am very proud. Seriously, this book helped me save my life.

Followed the book exactly, it doesnt work!!

This might work if you are a light drinker trying to quit. But, if you are an alcoholic or even close, please dont waste your money on this book.

Recovery is a journey not a destination.

It is nice to see people who are not afraid to speak out on what works for them. The AA/NA programs intimidate so many people, and clearly are not for everyone. This is most likely why only 5% of those who enter the doors of AA, stay clean after 1 year.Iam a substance abuse counselor and I have been involved with the 12 steps programs for over 10 years. And I¿am not afraid to state it is a re-socialization program that saved my life, and gave me a chance to rebuild my life. This being said, I must make it perfectly clear, it only worked to the point of my being able to share my issues, to help me recognize I was not a lone. But the doctrine and the format of a church based social club, ran by people stuck in early to mid recovery turned me away. You have to grow past the program to where you are living the 12 steps, not just socializing and pretending you are. This book offers those who need a different path the opportunity to do so. With out sounding closed-minded I would like to say, AA/NA are strong programs, I just don¿t know why they are so threatened by the concept they are not the only pathways to recovery. Keping in mind as I wish the substance abuse treatment industry, and the 12 step community would do. That is to recognize that one size does not fit all. And most Importantly not attempt to close the door for so many who don't fit the AA mold. I say again the AA program is a great one, but not for everyone. Good for you Mr. Dorsman, your book is a great insight to all who will take note.

AA, Quit Coming Back, It Doesn't Work

AA IS NOT THE ANSWER FOR EVERYONE...only the weakminded. The courts these days are sticking people into situations such as AA because there seems to be no line between government and religion anymore. This books outlines a life without the prayers, without the higher power and allows people to pursue a life without alcohol and without the dirt feelings associated going to an AA meeting. My hat is off to a man who understands.
