Overview

There's more than one way to rape a straight guy, and Curt's been through them all. Now he's out to do some damage.

Curt has been beaten, betrayed, and brutalized by nearly everybody he's known. Even his mother -- once a prostitute but now married and born again -- has banned him from contact with his younger brother and sisters. Then he went through six years in prison and came out ten times harder than when he went in. Demands from his wife and zero prospects of a decent job are making it impossible for him to even think of having a normal life...until he's hustling two gay men in a bar, one afternoon, and mentions his experiences in prison -- which included forcing straight cons to get off as he raped them. A very satisfying method of revenge.

It seems the two men, Wayne and Lenny, want some revenge of their own against a straight guy who's caused them trouble. If Curt can get the bastard off while being assaulted, they'll give him a car, cash, and a chance at a new life. Being in the mood to do some damage, Curt agrees...but step-by-step a stupid little bet begins to spin out of control and threatens to plunge him headlong into disaster.

And he's not sure he wants to stop it.

Okay, first of all, forget the title. It's really in-your-face and makes it sound like the book is just porn - and yeah, there is some serious sex detailed in it - but there's a lot more to it than just a way to get off. The story follows an ex-con named Curt, who's found a nasty way to get even with the world - by forcing men he's got a grudge against to get off while being assaulted, not just in prison against his fellow convicts, but also against guards and men in "the community." He brags about it to a couple of men he's trying to hustle in a bar, they bet him he can't really do it and things get crazy after that. Something to keep in mind while reading this book is, it's told in first person by a man who's spent six years in jail, so you can't take everything he says at face value. Sure, he blames everybody but himself for why he wound up there, but Sullivan lets little glimmers pop out as to what might really have happened - he thought he'd make a quick buck and got busted, instead. And he also lets us know how some of Curt's victims react to being assaulted - one attempting suicide, another lost in a catatonic shock. And then there's Wayne and Lenny, the two guys Curt makes the bet with; they obviously have an agenda and Curt sort of senses it, but he deliberately blinds himself to it thinking he can control things...and soon finds out he can't. Of course, there's the obligatory sex scene in every chapter, but there's also some intense character development. Curt is a dangerous man always on the edge of violence, but he's revealed to also be a wounded creature just trying to make his way in the world. On one occasion, he decides to attack a man he sees walking down the street just because he doesn't like his walk, but he also has a startling moment where a clean, fresh towel causes him some intense emotional pain because it represents everything he's never had in his life. He keeps saying he's heterosexual (he is married, after all) but he sells himself for money and beer and hints come out that his first time in jail happened because he was trying to get a high school jock stoned to see if they could do something together. He also keeps saying all he's after is control and power when he rapes a man, but he makes such a strong connection with one of his victims, you can tell there's a lot more to it than that. The writing style is fast and sounds dead on. Really sounds like a guy with minimal education is telling a story to try and explain away why he wound up back in prison. And it moves. Man, does it move. At under 150 pages, it's a fast, erotic, scary read - there's one attack that seems more like something out of a slasher movie than a porno book - that I couldn't put down.
