    Seven years in the making!

    I worked on this new edition of How To Read a Film from 1993 to 2000, and rewrote it numerous times. Chapter 1, 3, and 5 are essentially the same. Chapters 2 and 4 have been completely updated, Chapter 6 was totally rewritten and a new Chapter 7 on Multimedia has been added. The Bibliography and Chronology are more than twice as large as before. (And the Glossary has been spun off as 'The Dictionary of New Media.') What's most important is that the book is now accompanied by a DVD-ROM multimedia version that includes more than 100 film clips, audios, author's notes, the complete searchable text of HTR--and three other books--plus 1,000 illustrations and lots more. Perhaps that's why it took seven years. If you want to see how film prepares us for what's coming next in the digital revolution I hope you'll take a look at HTR.
