    Author's Comments

This book was written as a user's manual for individuals either looking to purchase a 914 or having just purchased one and looking for help concerning the car's idiosyncracies. While many hardcore 914 addicts will be disappointed with what they consider to be mundane advice, this book provides everyone else the needed background info to enjoy their 914. I refer to positive reviews from European Car and Excellence stating as such.

    Disappointed

Much of this book's content is available for free elsewhere, for instance in parts catalogs or on web sites. Do we really need yet another description of how to adjust the valves? Again, this info is available elsewhere, and for free. But what really disappointed was that the title said it would talk about how to -modify- a 914, but actually barely mentioned modifications and gave practically no useful information, like what kind of improvements to expect. On the contrary, the book often exhibited a bias against making modifications. As I read through the book, I kept hoping the good part was on the next page, but never found it. Spend your money more wisely by picking up a Haynes or Clymer manual for diy routine maintenance and look to web sites (especially Pelican Parts), discussion boards, and parts catalogs for the other information.
