Overview

It's not that hard to write a catchy tune, but crafting songs that create an emotional connection with just about anyone who hears them -- well, that's an altogether tougher task. Despite their relative youth -- frontman and primary songwriter Isaac Slade is just 25 -- this Denver-bred quartet proved their ability to do just that with the breakthrough hit "Over My Head (Cable Car)," a poignant tale that details Slade's relationship with his brother in remarkably universal language. Slade's piano playing is the primary coloring agent in songs such as "Look After You" and "Heaven Forbid," and while that might initially suggest similarly constructed British bands like Coldplay and Keane, there's nothing particularly Anglophilic about what lurks in the grooves of How to Save a Life. If anything, the foursome come across as sincere torchbearers of old-school Americana -- the branch nurtured by folks like Jakob Dylan and the Gin Blossoms -- who'll be capable of soldiering on no matter which way the prevailing pop winds blow. This expanded edition of How to Save a Life is augmented with a DVD that includes an on-the-road documentary, videos for the title track and "Over My Head," and a pair of making-of-the-video featurettes.

This band is great! They have great voices and a great sound live (which means that they will most likely be good on the CD), and they are very nice and friendly. Go get tthis CD when it comes out!

caught one track on local radio, and they sounded enticing. Found the cd in the store and haven't stopped listening. The Fray have a fresh, original sound. We need a breath of fresh air sometimes. Check these guys out.

Ive followed these guys from the beginning. The radio station I listen to was the first radio station to play these guys. THey have just been awesone ever since. This CD shows how a truly talented band can make it in the music world without luck or other contributions. How to save a life was the best album I bought of 2005. Hands down 5 stars.

When asked who I would compare The Fray to, I found myself searching for a comparison. I thought a little bit of U2, a little bit of Coldplay, perhaps a hint of Matchbox Twenty. The Fray has done something that very few modern artists have been able to do, they have captured their own unique sound. It is very easy to relate to the lyrics on this album. The Denver foursome hit the nail on the head with their first release and I'm greatly looking forward to future releases.

I've been a fan of The Fray since August of 2005. This record is the best I've ever heard! The lyrics are actually meaningful and some of the songs were wrote after some hard experiences, so I've heard in interviews. Over My Head (Cable Car) and How To Save a Life are excellent, and I like all of the tracks! I don't see why The Fray isn't famous yet! Pick up this album and listen to it right now!

It's been a while since these guys first came out, but they are really starting to hit it off. Their song "Over My Head (Cable Car)" is just so great I can't stop listening to it. Anyone wondering whether to check these guys out really needs to. They Rock!

"How To Save A Life" was a good "pull-you-in" title song. That is about the end of it. I find the cd boring and hard to keep interested, but does have a couple favorable songs to listen to when one is depressed. Would recommend this to those who like Five for Fighting.

The Fray did have a good sound. Now they have become pop-esq stars, and "Over my head (Cable Car)" is played every hour on my local stations. I liked their sound at first, but "How to Save a Life" sound just like "Over my Head". Just listen to the radio and save your money.

I really enjoy The Fray, but with songs being overplayed, it tarnishes their image in my opinion. Also, overplaying songs make them agonizing to listen to later on in the future... And whoever says "Over my Head" is the same as "How to Save a Life" is crazy. They are very different.

This album may not be a winner of the album of the year but I'm still not disappointed that I bought it. Sure, I was tempted to own it after liking very much "Over my head". Some reviewers mentioned that the rest of the songs are just carbon copies of the hit track of the album but I strongly disagree. It may not be the most sophisticated album and it may be targeted mostly to teens and young adults but I think that those who liked "Over my head" and like rock music won't be fully disappointed. There are couple of lyrical ballads. "Look after you" and "Hundred" are very good for that example. "Heaven forbid" treats about loneliness and "Trust me" treats about different kind of loneliness - the one which you can find in a big city when you feel lonely even though there are crowds around you. And "She is" is a very good opening song with extremely catchy melody that stays in your head long after you finish listening to the album. Overall, it may not be a breath-taking album but still it would be inconsiderate to let it be unnoticed and to pass it by.

These songs don't have an edge to them, they're too comfortable. They're not bad, but they don't draw me in or make me go wow that was a great song.

This c.d. is just up and down a great album. Every song on here I just love. I could listen to this the whole day, over and over again. My favorite has always been How To Save A Life. All At Once, Hundred, and Vienna are just awesome, and the other ones are just as good. So listen to it, or you're missing out.
