    How to Solve Word Problems in Algebra, 2nd Edition

    Going into Elementary Algebra I was petrified that I would have difficulty with the word problems. I had done very poorly with them (didn't have a clue on how to do them) in high school Algebra 40 years ago. This little book was one of the best supplemental texts I used to help me. I used it along with the other two books I listed below as recommended titles. Between these three books there wasn't one word problem in my homework assignments that I couldn't figure out. They did a much better job explaining how to set up and solve algebra word problems than my textbook. Each chapter addressed a particular type of word problem and has examples and practice problems with their solutions clearly worked out for you. The main types I was concerned with were mixture, coin and number, distance and work problems. This book was extremely helpful. I can't say enough about it. However, please note that I did use it along with the other two supplemental books I mention below. I often had all three books open in front of me whenever I was working on word problems in homework assignments. My college instructor gave us word problems as bonus questions on our tests and I nailed every one of them without any difficulty. What a great feeling after the terrible experience I had had in high school so many years ago. Like any subject you are learning, you do have to put some time and effort into understanding the material.

    x=this book

    Best book on how to solve and explain algebra word problems. The book isn't perfect--it lacks examples of problems more typically found in pre-calculus algegra, but the explanations ARE SO GOOD--that the average student can take it from where the book ends and thrive.

    How to Solve Word Problems in Algebra, 2nd Edition

    Just finished Intermediate Algebra. I sailed through any of the word problems we were given and there was always at least one on every test.
