Interesting read filled with valuable information.

A police officer's job involves dealing with the public; we interact with them each day. Sometimes that interaction is on a proactive level; most times, we are reacting to something, a crime that was committed or a gut instinct we have regarding someone we contact on the street. Regardless of the reason, our course of action is predicated upon on our perception of the veracity of questions we ask.

After reading Mark's book I feel better prepared to deal with people I feel are not telling the truth. But don't think this book is for law enforcement only. Parents, teachers, and many others can benefit from it as well. I highly recommend it!

A fascinating, must-read book on an important topic!

Former FBI agent and mystery novelist Mark Bouton offers a fascinating look into the world of deception in this compelling book. It's a fascinating blend of scientific evidence, real-life stories from from Bouton's career in the FBI and practical advice on how to spot a lie. Is it always possible to tell if someone's lying? What does it mean if someone pauses before answering a question-is this usually a sign of deception? Can body language be a reliable indicator that someone is being less than honest? What are the "tells" you should watch for? Which is more important--what someone says or how he says it? These are just a few of the intriguing questions the author tackles in this comprehensive work. Photographs accompany the text and illustrate the key points, making this a highly readable, entertaining book. I highly recommend it. Five stars!
