Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Marilyn Sample, B.S. and M.S.(Indiana State University)
Description: This book will be of special interest to potential and existing nursing students, but it will also be helpful to nursing faculty. The author uses a lighthearted approach to present suggestions for dealing with issues and concerns one may experience while choosing a nursing school and being a nursing student. Students preparing for the NCLEX and graduates choosing employment in the profession of nursing will also benefit.
Purpose: Numerous quotes and anecdotes from nursing students and instructors underscore points that the author makes throughout the book. The use of relevant cartoons and clich├ęs add levity to the down-to-earth suggestions.
Audience: This book is truly written for the nursing student in particular as opposed to the college student.
Features: The author addresses concerns that are somewhat unique to nursing students, such as those related to clinical rotations, clinical instructors, and staff in the clinical area. She recognizes many concerns nursing students may have but also writes about special concerns of older students, male students (as a minority in a female-dominated profession) and gay, lesbian, or bisexual students. There is a wonderful chapter on taking care of oneself in which the author writes about dealing with stress, codependency, and cognitive distortions. It is a chapter that readers will find enlightening and self-empowering. The author recognizes that most students work while they are in school and offers innovative suggestions on how to manage multiple responsibilities. There are also chapters filled with strategies for being successful in the classroom and with test taking. At the end of each chapter, there are an array of resources, such as books, Web sites, and organizations to contact and explore.
Assessment: For prospective and existing nursing students, this book is very useful resource.

    Lucy, Nursing Student

I am currently in Nursing school, and it sucks! I hate it! Until I read this book, I thought I would blow my freaking head off. Now that I have seen the light at the end of the tunnel, I have followed the light and tasted the colors inside of it.

    About the book

The title is saying that how are you going survive to be a nurse and if you don't like it that well you should do it because of the money. if you do it just for the money it will be hard on you. because you will have to work those long hours. If you just think it's going to be easy because they make alot of money it is not all ways going to be about the money it's about what you learn and how you use what you learn because don't want anybody coming of the street and working with them. They want somebody that have took there time and went to school to really do this if you don't have time for working& careing for people you should not do it. Nurseing school is fun if you do it right and take your time on it and have fun with it to it will be fun and you will love it.Because I looking forward in to doing it because i'm dong research i'm 14 years old and I like working with babys.

    perfect

This book couldn't have come at a better time... I was looking for a new drug book in the Nursing section of a bookstore and actually fell upon this. I can't stress how much this saved my nursing school career! Funny, bright and 100% relevant.... Perfect!

    About time!

I just saw an advance copy of this book and all I have to say is--this book is very helpful, very cute and even funny. If you're in nursing school you need the information in this book. Boy oh boy isn't the cover bright green though! It can keep you from falling asleep during micro or something.
