Overview

No task requires more of you than parenting. How Would Jesus Raise a Child? explores specific ways you can pattern your parenting style after Christ. Drawing from New Testament examples, Teresa Whitehurst describes how you can: experience your own transformation as Jesus changes you from the inside out; help your child avoid the world's dangers and pursue God's path instead; develop "heartseeing" vision so you can understand your child's true needs. Dr. Whitehurst's background in psychology, knowledge of the Bible, and parenting experience make this book both practical and insightful. If you long to raise your children with a strong foundation, if your parent-child relationship isn't all you desire, or if you're tired of parenting books that just don't work, you're ready to learn how Jesus would raise a child -- and then follow his example.

What Christian Parents Need To Hear

So many Christian parents are being misled in the area of discipline, and 'How Would Jesus Raise a Child?' is a refreshing antidote to child-hitting enthusiasts like Dobson and Tripp. The basis of the Christian faith in action is Jesus's teachings and examples. In 'How Would Jesus Raise a Child?' Dr. Whitehurst takes an in-depth look at these central concepts and applies them to the parent/child relationship. Written with warmth and clarity, the reader will learn how to emulate Jesus' ways of leadership, empathy and gentle discipline, thus benefitting children and improving family relationships.

A new, personal kind of parenting book

How Would Jesus Raise a Child? focuses first on the parent's development, only later on the child's. The questions made me think, sometimes got me mad, but then made me think again, remembering parts of my own childhood I'd forgotten. I've already gone back to certain sections that give me a lot of reassurance and comfort, and help me to believe i can do it when the kids are driving me crazy, or i just feel I'll never do this perfectly. From this book I know now that NOBODY does it perfectly. Thanks for a book that made me cry sometimes, but laugh as well. We ARE in this together, rich and poor, believers and not-so-sures...we all want the best for our children. This book shows us how to care for their spiritual development, in addition to their social and academic lives...It's a great resource when you're all out of ideas and your kid's got a problem! (and I have to admit, it's also good when you feel discouraged for whatever reason; it's one of those good books to curl up with, maybe with some hot chocolate, when you're feeling kind of down."
