Howard Chaykin's Black Kissby Howard Chaykin
It's been a long, long time . . . Rough around the edges, and rougher still at its core, Howard Chaykin's boundary-shattering immersion into noir at its bleakest has seen its legend as comics' dirty little secret grow for more than two decades. Down-on-his-luck jazz musician Cass Pollack plummets into an unrelenting nightmare of sex and death, lot in the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles, where life is cheap and every shadow holds a fearsome secret. Still as smart and savage as when it was new, Chaykin's brutally coarse masterwork is remastered for this Dynamite edition, which collects the entire 12-issue series.
Howard Chaykin pioneered the graphic-novel form in the United States with Empire, The Stars My Destination, and The Swords of Heaven, Flowers of Hell. He created the award-winning and ridiculously influential American Flagg! and Time2, as well as deconstructing a number of mainstream characters, most notably The Shadow and Blackhawk. His recent projects include The Avengers, Wolverine, Captain America, The Punisher, Iron Man and Die Hard: Year One. He has served on staff as a writer/producer on several television series,
rising to the level of Showrunner, as well as freelancing in feature films, pilots, and episodic television. These days he spends his time writing and drawing comics, living at the beach, filled with gratitude that he's no longer afflicted with a youthful attitude problem.
