Tracey ( The Human Resources Glossary , AMACOM, 1991) offers an affordable, selective wordbook for men and women in business. The book contains over 1200 entries, including over 200 acronyms and abbreviations, over 900 terms, and 83 employment-related laws, arranged alphabetically in an accessible format. The definitions of terms and explanations of legislation like the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 are authoritative and excellent. Each entry successfully interprets the context and application of an acronym, term, and law and applies the definition to the human resource function. There is abundant use of See also references. A comparable title, Jay M. Shafritz's Facts on File Dictionary of Personnel Management and Labor Relations (1985. 2d ed.), is broader in scope, providing more than 4000 entries of similar length. But though it is less comprehensive, Tracey's work is more up-to-date, concentrating on the current essentials of the field. A recommended addition to the literature.-- Marilyn Rosenthal, Nassau Community Coll. Lib., Garden City, N.Y.
