PRAISE FOR HUBRIS

“Fast-paced and terrifying from beginning to end – it's a blend of the best kind of visceral action and edge-of-your-seat danger.”

Hubris is a thriller that asks the big questions. What happens when the bad guys and the good guys reach too far?

THEY SAY CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT.

For Charity Deacon, a private investigator with a nose for trouble, it's just a way of life.
She witnesses a car crash that hides a brutal murder. The police don't talk to PIs, and especially not to her, but Charity has to know more about the victim with a bullet hole in his head. Maybe she can trade the photos and video she collected right at the scene for a little valuable information.

Her latest client is a streetwalker named Val; too old to be called a child anymore, but too young for the life she's been forced to lead. Val's used to fending for herself, but her sister Emma has fallen into something big, and anyone who shows too much interest in this particular business is liable to catch a sudden case of death. She needs the help of a pro, and soon, or Emma may not survive to be rescued.

The cases are both connected to Jag Chen and Peter Wong, a pair of 'respectable' businessmen who are not what they seem. Emma's trail leads into the seedy underworld of Vancouver, and into their twisted, evil people-smuggling operations. As Charity traces each lead with Val in tow, they get closer and closer to the most dangerous criminals in the city – the Chinese gangs that like to kill anyone who gets too curious about them.

Good thing Charity has nine lives. She may need every one.
