Editorial Reviews

VOYA, June 2014 (Vol. 37, No. 2) - Jane Murphy
The Current Controversies series, which addresses contemporary “hot topics,” is sure to please school and public librarians alike, and will add to the research materials students seek for term papers. Human Trafficking presents both sides of a subject many will find difficult yet fascinating. The world of human trafficking is unfathomable to many young people in this country. Their eyes are sure to be opened by this informative book. Factors contributing to trafficking; the pros and cons of keeping internet access open to sites for sex trafficking; the use of advertising online; discussions of free speech considerations; and the ways in which popular culture glorifies women as sex objects are all presented. The impact of globalization on these trends is examined, and ways to prevent the spread of trafficking are addressed. Many teens are more aware than parents would like them to be, and this series equips them with the knowledge and awareness needed for survival. This series is again a good resource for debates. This series would make a great addition to well-supported school libraries, as well as medium to large public libraries. (Current Controversies) Reviewer: Jane Murphy; Ages 12 to 18.
