Overview

Hummingbird Wars is a novelette--just the right size for a few hours of satisfying entertainment. The first fulfilling chapters from the title story will transport you to a small town where you will get to know characters like Frank Tacket, a man who suffers through the heartbreak of realizing he no longer has the trust of people he respects and Maggie Ferris, a woman who begins to suspect God's direction and her own will may be on differing courses.
Although this first selection in the novelette delves into serious matters like gossip and jealousy in the church during its seven chapters, it does have its light-hearted moments that will amuse its readers too.
Spiritually insightful, "Hummingbird Wars" introduces you into the lives of people who could be your next door neighbors and friends. And the next time you watch hummingbirds at your feeder, you may be compelled to examine your own life.
But that's just one of the stories in this eclectic collection. "Winding Up Equal" takes you inside the life of a family who experiences a major change and has to learn how to cope. Then, relax and enjoy the account of the nerdy mama's boy in "Puppy Eyes" and let your funny bone be tickled by the outrageous happenings in "The Red Tie."
And planted in between each story, like a lovely flower on a country lane, you'll find a poem from the author to stop and enjoy.

Editorial Reviews

Jim Russell
A realistic story and a very good read. I knew these characters. I've been to church with people like this and had neighbors like this. And I will think of it whenever I see a "hummingbird war."

Meet the Author

I am a Christian wife and mother of five. My husband and I reside in London, Ky. I am an author of several books. One book, "Heartstorms," is a Christian, fiction novel. It's about a woman who, though she has suffered through a divorce, is standing on her own two feet. However, her wilder sister and ex-husband have plans that could send her over the edge. Three of my books consist of a trio of short stories. "Mothering," has three true stories about the times of joy and heartache that come with being a mother and "Stories to Laugh By," is a novelette of comedic short stories that are fiction. Also, a brand new offering, "Hummingbird Wars," is a novelette that reads true about the life of a woman who has difficult decisions to make in the midst of attacks from the enemy. My books contain no curse words and are free from descriptive sexual content. However, because of some of the subject matter, they are intended for mature readers. My world view is based on the fact that I am a Christian. Although I don't preach in my books, my characters are shaped from the perspective that there are absolutes and that God is the creator of everything. I believe many characters in some books don't ring true because, though the writer may be an excellent wordsmith, the "how" and "why" of a person's heart is not based on the truth. My characters are not sugar-coated personalities nor are the situations they become involved in. The drama in my books is not about high speed car chases or aliens landing in the back yard but about what goes on in a person's heart during the trials of life whether it's losing a cat or losing a romantic love.

    Good Christian Book

Sometimes Christian books are preachy but this one just tells a story I could believe really happened. I liked the main character and I want to get a hummingbird feeder and watch the action. lol
