Help in finding humor in unexpected places.

One you get a copy of this gem, you will have trouble putting it down. I first read this book 30 years ago and just finished a re-read. Insights abound! For those of us that have trouble understanding many of the sayings of Jesus Christ, this book is a Godsend. By suggesting that we look for often a less than serious word from the God-man, Dr. Trueblood opens new meaning to what had been puzzling words and parables. Things that did not make sense, now carry truth and make us smile at the same time. We miss the humor because 1) we are too familiar with the words; 2) we are too aware of the ending [the cross] to realize that Jesus Christ laughed and demonstrated much wit--usually in making a point that might otherwise not have been remembered, much less understood; and 3) His wit is so subtle that we simply don't see it. For example, telling the most judgemental group in his day, ¿You want to avoid judgment, do you?¿ He can be understood as saying, ¿Then be sure that you at least have the consistency to avoid it, yourself.¿ "If this paraphrase is at all correct, we have here one of the most vivid examples of that kind of irony in which the intended implication is the exact opposite of the literal sense." Now that makes sense out of what has been for many a confusing word from Christ. This is just a sample. Read it. Be sure to hold your preconceived images of Jesus Christ loosely, because many of them will turn to dust as you see a much more human, less serious and engagingly witty person emerges. Prepare to learn fresh truth and look for a twinkle in His eye as you are doing it.
