Children's Literature - Rachel Miller
Diego is an animal rescuer. Here, he takes the reader on a journey to help a beached humpback whale. Throughout, he addresses the reader as though they are on the journey together. Diego uses some Spanish words, and he asks the reader to say and do certain things in order to advance the journey. In addition, the reader is forced to make decisions based on prior knowledge about humpback whales. There is quite a bit of information relayed about humpback whales in this slim book. After Diego finds the humpback whale, Diego compliments the reader on a job well done. At the end of the adventure, a page details all of the information that should have been learned throughout the journey and provides additional information about humpback whales. The pictures are very kid-friendly and colorful. The language used is very appropriate for the age group. This is part of the "Nick Jr. Go Diego Go" series. Reviewer: Rachel Miller
