Funny and relatable the focus is the food, food supply and the methods and machinery that will need to be developed in order to launch and build a successful population of humans on Mars. Space travel is not for the faint of heart and this book is an honest and unvarnished effort to portray the true endurance one must possess to survive life in a Martian colony. Claman also adds a bit of humor throughout the book and in the final chapter includes part of a fictional story of a possible future society on Mars.

This book presents a realistic and well reasoned vision of the possible pitfalls, hardships and incomprehensible sacrifices that will confront the first people who attempt to establish a colony on Mars. Extremes in temperature, a toxic unbreathable atmosphere, working conditions that will be uncomfortable and stabilized food rations are all part of a combat theater that seem eerily similar to many of the situations one could expect to find on a mission to Mars.

About the Author

Bill Claman is a former US Air Force IT guy and veteran of Desert Storm. He now works for a large
corporation in the Twin Cities metro as a process automation developer (IT guy). While nobody on earth can
actually be an expert at what you can or will eat on Mars, Bill has made it a life-long mission of not missing a
meal. Growing up on an acreage in central Iowa also gave him experience with many types of farm produce.
Between those two facts, that’s really all you should need to know. But hey, if that’s not enough, the
Department of Defense gave him a Top Secret security clearance; so you can trust him.

When not working or writing, Bill spends time hanging out with his wife and distance running. And
occasionally the empty-nesters’ kids and grandkids show up as well. When none of those options are
available, Bill heads to his backyard in his Bobcat to move some dirt and rocks until different dirt and rocks
show.
