Meet the Author

Many authors claim to have known their calling from a young age. Liz Schulte, however, didn't always want to be an author. In fact, she had no clue. Liz wanted to be a veterinarian, then she wanted to be a lawyer, then she wanted to be a criminal profiler. In a valiant effort to keep from becoming Walter Mitty, Liz put pen to paper and began writing her first novel. It was at that moment she realized this is what she was meant to do. As a scribe she could be all of those things and so much more.
When Liz isn't writing or on social networks she is inflicting movie quotes and trivia on people, reading, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. Liz is a Midwest girl through and through, though she would be perfectly happy never having to shovel her driveway again. She has a love for all things spooky, supernatural, and snarky. Her favorite authors range from Edgar Allen Poe to Joseph Heller to Jane Austen to Jim Butcher and everything in between.

I received this as an ARC. Another amazing story by Liz Schulte

I received this as an ARC.

Another amazing story by Liz Schulte! I love this woman. Her books have a way of sucking me in so that the rest of the world disappears around me. This book is the second in her Easy Bake Coven series. You can read my review of the first book, Easy Bake Coven, at Identity Discovery Blog.

Book one ends with Cheney and Selene taking over the throne of the Elves. Selene is a half elf, so this appears to be something that is going to cause a problem among the Elf race. The only part that seems ok is that Cheney is a full blooded elf and the heir to the throne. He over threw his father because he tried to banish Cheney for marrying a half elf. Cheney and Selene have decided that it is time for change among the Fae, allowing all the fae races to have some kind of say in how their world is run, including those that are half human. However, we are also introduced to Jaron in the final scene who informs Selene that she has been doing great and the plan is going exactly as planned. Selene also has a memory that involves kissing Jaron, leaving Selene wondering if she really is following some grand plan that she doesn't even remember.

Book two introduces us to Selene regaining her memories throughout the story. These memories leave her feeling even more confused about how she feels about Cheney or Jaron. It also has her wondering why she doesn't remember anything about her cousin that apparently she had been very close with. To top it off, Selene's human ex-fiance Michael is kidnapped, her yoga studio burned to the ground, she finds out she has been cursed, her grandma thinks she killed her parents, and Cheney is acting very weird. She doesn't know who to trust or what to do. It's a big mess that does get cleaned up pretty nicely by the end of the story. There are still questions left unanswered, which I believe are leading to what will happen in book three. It's a fantastic story and I want more!

    Better than the First

I started this book way too late at night after just finishing the first book. (I was at that point of tiredness where I just *had* to buy the second book for my e-reader...and promptly read the whole thing till the wee hours of the morning.) I think it was even better than the first book. The backstory was easier to understand, the characters were firm in their character-ness, and the mystery part of the plot had me swinging back and forth between who I thought was the bad guy.

I would have liked a bit more explanation for how magic worked -- especially the magic that ended up being central to the plot. Because I feel like some of the explanations and politics that were central to the plot were just tossed out there without much context, so they were more confusing than they needed to be. But then again, I read it late at night, so it could have just been me.

Selene Warren is a half human half elf hybrid.  She’s accepted that her human life was pretty much over when she helped her elf-husband Cheney take the crown.  Selene is known to be a runner.  Things get to tough, Selene takes a hike.  So, least she knew she had a way out of the elf life is she chooses to run in the future.  Unfortunately for her, her yoga studio business has burnt down, and her ex-fiancé is missing.  Running from her past is no longer an option.  Lives are at stake, and it is up to her to find a way to retrieve her lost memories.   All her doubts about her relationship with her elf-husband, Cheney, are put to the test as a former lover confronts her using her own memories as his weapons.  Will Selene be able to save those she loves from being used against her?  Will she regain her memories in order to get to the bottom of who wants her dead?
“Hungry, Hungry Hoodoo” may have a strange name, but it is not a strange book.  If anything it is even better than the first book in the series, “Easy Bake Coven”.  The plot line keeps you guessing your second guesses while keeping you glued to your e-reader.  The characters are complex while maintaining their own personal identities.  I even thought at one point that it would be funny if the remaining members of the Easy Bake Coven decided to “borrow” Sebastian for a few decades when the dust finally settles.
Anyway, I highly recommend reading this series.  It has a complex plot line while maintaining the romance in the story.  Olivia Martin, Holden and Femi are also in this story.  Which, I for one love it when authors bring back characters from other novels they have written.  My biggest grip is having to wait until September to read the next novel “Pickup Styx”.

This is the second book in the Easy Bake Coven series and it doe

This is the second book in the Easy Bake Coven series and it doesn't disappoint. Selene Warren has found love in the arms of her elf husband, Cheney, but the problem is she doesn't remember her former life with him. Who was she and why won't anyone tell her anything? When she tries to force the memories, she is assaulted with unimaginable head pain. Throw in a sexy former lover, a murder and kidnapping and this book is full of exciting twists and turns.
The more I read about Selene, the more I liked her. The author has done a great job letting the reader into the mind of Selene as she tries to figure out who is friend or enemy. Cheney is stoic, but underneath that cool exterior, is a smoldering love for Selene. He's one sexy elf. The action is this book never stops and just when you think you've got the mystery figured out, there's another twist in the story. This is a quick and easy read and it wraps up most of the problems, but there is a cliff hanger that will have you clamoring for book 3. Recommended.
I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

    Mystery, Romance, and Magic

What a great combination in a story! This is the second book in the series and I really encourage readers new to this series to start with the first book, because this book builds on the magic, supernatural politics, and characters that were introduced in that first book. I really liked the character development in this book, although Selene's confusion and moodiness almost got excessive while she was figuring out her past. I loved the look at her past and the unexpected ending. I'm going to buy the next book now.

Glad that this book developed Selene's history in more detail. Would have enjoyed more of a love triangle angle.
