Overview

After a week of hearing ghostly noises, a man is visited in his home by the spirit of his mother, dead for three decades. She reproaches him for his dissolute life and begs him to have Masses said in her name. Then she lays her hand on his sleeve, leaving an indelible burn mark, and departs...

A Lutheran minister, no believer in Purgatory, is the puzzled recipient of repeated visitations from "demons" who come to him seeking prayer, consolation, and refuge in his little German church. But pity for the poor spirits overcomes the man's skepticism, and he marvels at what kind of departed souls could belong to Christ and yet suffer still...

Hungry Souls recounts these stories and many others trustworthy, Church-verified accounts of earthly visitations from the dead in Purgatory. Accompanying these accounts are images from the "Museum of Purgatory" in Rome, which contains relics of encounters with the Holy Souls, including numerous evidences of hand prints burned into clothing and books; burn marks that cannot be explained by natural means or duplicated by artificial ones. Riveting!

    Hungry Souls.....our life after death?

Many of us beleive that we are on a direct route to heaven following death and hell is reserved for "really bad" people. HOwever Catholic dogma and parts of the Bible say there is an intermediary place called Purgatory. This is not a spiritual "spa" before you meet God but a place of suffering and purgation. The concept is difficult to understand but we cannot ignore it simply because it is unpleasant. The book offers several "proofs" here on earth that these souls sometimes communicate with the living. I recommend people of faith to read this book as it may help those who are suffering to embrace it and shorten the time of purgation. Consider this book an inviation from God who loves us so much he wants us to be in eternity with HIm.

    Thank you for writing this

I am not Catholic, but was drawn to the book by the title. I am grateful to have found this book. We recently had a tragic loss of a very close loved one. It was sudden and quite unexpected. Because of our beliefs on the afterlife as being once they are gone they are gone, it has thrown us into a tailspin of utter powerlessness to be of help or comfort to him at all now. What your book has done was give me the hope that my prayers can be of help to him. That i still can hope for some measure of comfort to send. Thank you for writing this book, and thank you to the publishers for putting it out there.

    This is a MUST READ!!

This book reviews the interactions several saints have had with the holy souls. It documents the 'proofs' left behind and includes pictures. After reading, one can't help but add daily devotions for these souls. It is a most gripping book!

    more from this reviewer

    Well written

This book a greatly needed aource on a topic that is so poorly understood. Its "thelogy" is accurate and reflects orthodoxy. It is well documented and is beneficial to both the faithful and the skeptic

    Good

I slept with the light on for 2 nights.
As a single person, it make me think about my death and who will pray for me. Now, I keep the alms of the purgatory in my prayers.
