Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Walker's gripping writing almost makes up for the weak premise of the intricate fifth Hunters paranormal (after 2009's Hunter's Need). Nessa is an old, powerful witch thrust into a sexy new body still occupied by the taunting presence of its previous owner and possessed by murderous urges. Young vampire Dominic is plagued by erotic dreams about a beautiful woman who is both familiar and mysterious, much to his frustration and confusion. Aided by characters from previous series titles, Nessa and Dominic attempt to discover the truth behind their psychic connection before evil forces destroy them both. Complex personal histories and a very solid paranormal world add detail and intrigue as beautifully well-rounded characters reach for clarity and survival, and series fans will tolerate Nessa and Dominic's drawn-out struggle to accept the destiny that readers can see coming from miles away. The first 150+ pages of the 260+ page book the characters are NOT together and only interact in very brief dreams/memories. I hung in that long. He finally gets to her "to rescue her" and within 3 pages of meeting her, he hits her and knocks her out to abduct her. She was not fighting him, she was scared to go with him and standing still. Despite being her reincarnated soul mate, and her "greatest love", the best way he determined he could deal with her was to hit her into unconciousness. NOT ROMANCE. I NEVER read another page once the romantic lead hits his woman. I stopped reading and I'm angry I wasted $8 and 157 pages worth of time.

Five centuries ago, Nessa the immortal witch held her lover Elias in her arms as he told her he would return to her just before he died. She became a member of the Hunters, whose mission is to control non-humans from attacking mortals. However, she has become wary of fighting and her beloved has not returned to her. In Idaho Nessa suffers amnesia after a blow to the head during a brawl. Elias has returned as Dominic Ralston the vampire- hunter. He believes he is certifiable as he has spent a lifetime dreaming of the woman he loves but has not met. Now he knows his beloved is in trouble, if she is real, he would willingly die for to keep her safe. However, he must first find the woman who stars in his wet dreams even though he is unsure she exists. The fifth Hunters romantic urban fantasy (see Hunter's Need and Hunter's Salvation) is a terrific character driven thriller as Nessa and Dominic are psychically linked even before they meet at Excelsior for the first time in five hundred years. The story line is somewhat thin as the evil enemy wants both dead before they accept their intertwined fate; yet series fans will appreciate the well written second chance at love saga.
