Children's LiteratureThis book about hunting is written for a young audience. It starts with an introduction and history, followed by types of prey and ecosystems, basic equipment, and then learning to hunt—a nice sequence for leading into the introduction to equipment. The book gets a bit more sophisticated as it covers licenses and laws and hunting skills: knowing your sport, game for beginners, bow and arrow, firearms in hunting. Advanced types of equipment, such as tree stands, blinds and ground blinds, and dogs in hunting are next. The following chapters include hunting ethics, archery and shooting, conservation, prey in the United States, and global game. Interesting supplemental information includes notable hunters and a timeline titled "What Happened When?" The book concludes with "Hunting Words to Know," "Where to Find More Info," and an index. There is lots of good and valuable information for young children in this book. Due to the illustrated information in this book (and in others of the "For Fun!" series) some older readers would also find it interesting. 2006, Compass Point Books/Capstone Press, Ages 7 to 9.
