Overview

Jacquelyn Frank, New York Times bestselling author of the Shadowdwellers series, invites readers into a dazzling new world of unstoppable desire and danger..

As an Advocate for his colony, Julian Sawyer travels to Earth to bring back the Chosen—women who possess energy potent enough to help revitalize his people. The stunning, silver-clad beauty who strides into his club one night radiates a sensual magnetism unlike any he's encountered, and Julian realizes that Asia Callahan is not just Chosen, she is his kindra: his one true mate.

For months, Asia has tracked the beautiful and mysterious Julian across the country, convinced that he's behind the disappearance of her sister and a dozen other women. She's prepared to believe he's a ruthless killer, but when she presents herself as bait, she discovers that the truth is far more shocking. Taken to a strange, hazardous realm she never knew existed, Asia will face the ultimate choice—between abandoning the life she's always known, and forsaking a passion as dangerous as it is powerful.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Dynamic characters in an intriguing world kick off a new paranormal romance series from bestseller Frank (the Shadowdwellers series). Bounty hunter Asia Callahan suspects magnetic Julian Sawyer is a serial killer and knows he's responsible for her sister's disappearance. Julian is a telepathic Gatherer determined to keep Asia from jeopardizing his mission: recruiting Earth women whose energy can save his society. Asia finds herself marooned on a different plane of existence, facing unimagined dangers from Julian's enemies and her own in an environment that can kill without warning. Unflinching, kick-ass characters bent on dominating each other, Asia and Julian are in constant combat, though Julian claims they're destined to be mates. The stakes in their explosive conflict threaten disaster for them and both their worlds. Frank's world-building is exceptional, and the fast-paced plot never lets up. (Jan.)

Not as good as her other books!

I really enjoyed her other books but this book didn't really meet my expectations. Asia really started to get on my nerves by the middle of the book.

    Really Bad!

I love her books and the shadow dwellers were outstanding. Unfortunately, this book is one of the worst books I have ever read and that's saying something since I've been reading since I was 3 yrs old. The new series had promise. The concept was good but, the character Asia was awful! I have never despised a book character like I do Asia. I purchased the hard bound version before it came out and that was a huge mistake. I'm waiting for some reviews on Katherine before I purchase it. I couldn't believe Ms. Franks was capable of writing such a bad book. Don't waste your money.

    Not Your Average Heroine

Asia is a strong, hard, determined woman who thinks she knows everything about how her world functions. So, it stands to reason that she is completely devastated to be kidnapped by Julian who is equally strong and determined and needs her to save his people.

Frank spins another excellent tale. Her characters are unique and pigheaded and frustrating in the most wonderful ways. She builds a completely new and complex society that draws you in. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Love Jacquelyn Frank.... didn't love this book.....

Have read all of Jacquelyn Franks books and love them, especially the nightwalker series. Characters are usually really great but this book just misses the mark. Leading man had all the potential but the leading female did nothing to add to this book. I kept waiting for her to turn the corner from cold and harsh to loving but it just never really happened. This limited the connection between the two characters leaving the reader bored. By the middle I had to make myself pick up the book just to finish it. Don't think I am really looking for more in this series.

    Not Her Best

This book started out promising and I liked the lore. Jac always does a good job of creating different but believable worlds. My problem with this books was that by the end of it, I could not stand Asia. She was annoying and did not make a very good leading lady. I get the strong female idea and usually like it but it went so far as to almost un-man Julian and make him look like a nancy. I don't know. I like alpha males more than snarky alpha females.

    A miss, but close...sort of

I have read all of Frank's books and can say that this one had a different plot, great imagination, and interesting supporting characters in the males but the females are way too annoying. The female character's of the book are way over the top. There's strong women and then there's witchy women no one cares about. I had to make myself keep reading, hoping the females would tone down by the end but I was disappointed. Would probably borrow then next book, depending on who it's about, but don't think I would buy.

    hunting Julian

I only gave this book three stars because although I really enjoyed most of the story there was some stuff I didn't like. First off let me start by saying I have read and love every story and series that Jacquelyn Frank has written. She is very creative and comes up with such incredible worlds and species that you can't help, but become immersed in the story yourself. Hunting Julian was another one of those stories that the concept itself is unique and mind blowing. Julian the leading male character was hot, sexy and very lovable. Now this is my reasoning for taking away two stars; the leading female character Asia, was horrible! She was such an angry, bitter, and horrible person. I tried so hard to like her! She was just so mean. The story had a problem of just repeating itself a lot. I know I'm being really hard on this book because it had such great potential and was a good book if you took out my problems with it. But maybe someone else might feel differently.

Readers will relish this terrific urban fantasy science fiction romance.

In Fort Lauderdale, bounty hunter Asia Callahan observes Julian Sawyer who has sex with a different girl every night. However, she watches him because thirteen females vanished across the country including her sister Kenya after meeting him. She knows his pattern and vows to learn what happened to her sibling and prevent number fourteen. Asia enters the Pu*sy Willow nightclub where Julian moves in on her. At his apartment, he grabs her throat and says she emits no sexual odor. Asia tries a jujitsu attack that draws pink blood. Julian picked her like her sister as a Chosen, but instead needs her as his zini. He mentally rapes Asia, but stops short of the physical. Instead they enter a portal to his world.

Julian explains to the Ampliphi leaders that his days as a gatherer are over as the human is his kindra. His companion Ariel is elated to see Julian until he introduces her to Asia as his kindra. He tells Ariel he will retire soon and informs Asia she is in the "Beneath" plane below that of the earth where his people are starving. As she struggles to adjust, some leaders want her dead while Julian needs her to come to him as he wants her, but his people need them to feed off their sexual energy.

Readers will be hooked from the moment Julian takes Asia to his dimension as the other realms premise comes across quite powerfully real even the need for sexual energy fueling this odd world with edifices hanging on nets. The lead couple is an interesting pairing as he needs her while she rejects him for taking her against her will leading to his major frustrations. Although the Ampliphi should have stopped the villainess long ago as she was hurting those dependent on her, fans will relish this terrific science fiction romance.

    Okay

I love the idea of this new series, but I got really sick of the main character Asia. If she would have had her revelation sooner I would have really enjoyed the book. Instead by page 200 I was almost skipping pages to get to the end because she was so irritating. I loved all the other characters and idea of the book and species.
