Hunting Marfa Lights takes the reader on a fascinating journey in pursuit of mysterious nocturnal luminous phenomena that sometimes appear near Marfa, Texas. These unusual lights were first observed by Native Americans who believed them to be fallen stars. In addition to frequent onsite observations and photography, the author installed four monitoring stations named Roofus, Snoopy, Owlbert A and Owlbert B, and equipped them with up to ten fully automated cameras that ran every night collecting data from all sources of light including his targeted elusive mysterious lights. This array of nightly monitoring stations provided the author with detailed data from all light sources for over a decade in the area of interest. Hunting Marfa Lights also includes 34 compelling stories told by individuals who have encountered these mysterious lights and have been amazed by the experience. Bunnell's investigation is the only detailed long term study of Mysterious Marfa Lights that has ever been conducted.

James Bunnell grew up in Marfa. He retired from BAE Systems as Director of Mission Planning Systems for Air Force Programs. He has written two other books, Seeing Marfa Lights and Night Orbs.

"...were always white to bright yellow or yellow-orange. We never saw any of other colors, but we never had any binoculars to watch with. They were unaffected by wind in any way. They often appeared in mid-air, often more than one, they divided, merged, went out, came back on, varied in brightness, traveled around, orbited or "danced" with one another, made us think they were playing with one another as they floated through the wind.

I just finished reading Hunting Marfa Lights. I would give this five stars out of five: an excellent book on a good investigation. The author finds no single interpretation convincing, regarding what causes Mara Lights. He seems to objectively give pros and cons for each hypothesis.

What a stimulating read! Absolutely fascinating. The description of your research was really good. I plan to reread everything. I read until midnight, but only skimmed the stories at the end--because I got too sleepy.

So, I now need to read them in more depth.I thought Story 7, Undulating Plasma Balls, was very interesting -- especially the description of the dim blue gas in several depressions.--M. Stump
