    Critical Mass Achieved!

    I was inspired to read Mr. Waugh's tale after seeing his name referenced in a fiction thriller by WEB Griffin. The detailed information on the special forces creation and his experiences in 'Nam lend to a thrilling and informative read. However, I wished to learn more of his later escapades that he was relunctant to share due to the "top-secret classified" nature of his work. Overall, an excellent read for those who looking for a true soldier's view of what needs to be done to properly protect our country.

    EXPLOSIVE!!!!

    This action packed book takes the reader to Vietnam where Billy Waugh, a Special Forces man in the US army, limps to cover after his platoon is ambushed. Billy then struggles to get back into military but finally finds his way as an independent contractor for the CIA. Billy then finds himself getting called in for special assignments. One of these assignments takes him to Khartoum where he is supposed to blend in and spy on alleged terrorists. At first he is assigned to watch and study Osama bin Laden. Within a few weeks he has an assassination plan, which is turned down by his chain of command. Billy then finds himself watching after Carlos the Jackal, a very dangerous man at the time. He watches Carlos and soon apprehends him. He then retires but soon finds out that a SF team is being put together, to be sent to Afghanistan. Billy, 71, goes to his chain of command and begs to be on this team. They very nicely disapprove of his plan because of his age and the weather in Afghanistan. His love for the adrenaline rush stops him from going home. He finally convinces them to let him go. This nail biting biography keeps you on your toes. However this book uses a lot of military jargon, which gets pretty confusing in some parts. Trying to understand some of the slang is the hardest part in reading this book. But, Billy Waugh does a magnificent job of telling the reader what exactly is going on and he shows how terrible conditions during these missions. Billy makes it seem like you're there right next to him, following him throughout the whole book.

    It takes guts

    It is hard to find the true stories of CIA operatives and Independent Contractors of the brave and devious lives they live. The reason is simple, anything they say in a book has to be approved by CIA vetting before it can be published. This gutsy guy tells his story of Vietnam that led him to the CIA. It's about the capture of Carlos the Jackal in Sudan and how he could have taken out Osama bin Laden if... It's an amazing true story...

    Awesome book!

    This book is a very well written account of a truly amazing man's life, spent protecting our freedoms.This book gave me some insight as to what the special forces does, and made me consider becoming a special forces operative.

    Billy In the Back Seat

    Billy was really nervous the day I let the fuel run low on one tank In an (O-1) over the jungle in Vietnam. The engine began to sputter, this really cool soldier asked, 'What happened?' in a nervous voice. I switched tanks and all was fine. A great book. Well worth the read but he didn't tell all did he?

    Unbelievable life, unbelievable book

    It's hard to believe one man found his way into as many of the world's hot spots as Billy Waugh. This book is a thrill ride of black ops, special ops and sheer survival. It's great to know we have people like him to protect our freedoms and do the dirty work the rest of us would rather ignore. The chapters on bin Laden and Carlos the Jackal read like the best spy novels. There's only one difference: All of this is true, too true.

    Required reading for all who enjoy freedom

    HUNTING THE JACKAL is an incredible and important look into the world of secret warriors working around the clock to safeguard our freedom. Billy Waugh has bravely and fearlessly fought in the shadows for half a century. He's hunted--and found--terrorists who top the Most Wanted lists, and here he shares an insider's untold stories about Carlos the Jackal and Osama bin Laden and others. His covert, thankless missions in the world's hellholes has not been pretty work, and what warriors like Waugh do and how they do it is not particularly appropriate for some polite conversations. But that is the point, particularly in a post-9/11 world where stopping terrorist attacks will take more brave men like Waugh. This is a well-written book--better than most--that lays out the real underworld in a clean, engaging fashion. You're quickly taken along on an amazing life, and before you know it, you're at the last page, overwhelmed at what you've 'witnessed' ... and wanting more. The best-selling author W.E.B.     This is the real Billy Waugh

    I served with Billy, and was proud to be involved with several operation with this true HERO. All of the vivid detail laid out in this book brought back a lot of memories, and is accurate and bone chillingly correct. America owes a great deal to this outstanding individual.
