The first half of this book was good, but it then it got rather

The first half of this book was good, but it then it got rather stilted in parts that made it seem like the author copied large parts directly from a dry history text book. Then, she would switch to what seemed like a Harlequin Romance novel. I found parts of it, bascially the behavior of the characters, completely unbelievable for that time in history. And, some of the dialogue was enough to make you groan. It was OK and thank goodness it was free, but the writing and story became so pedantic that I actually had to force myself to finish it.

good story but 200 pages too long

it got bogged down about 3/4 of the way in, so I just skipped and skimmed about 200 pgs to finish it.
