    Brilliantly OUTSTANDING

This book was fantastic! I recommend it to anyone who likes a good thriller. This book is packed with danger, death and fear; you just have no clue what will happen next, it's unpredictable. Probably best book I've read so far.

    A Golden Novel, Hurricane Gold

In the novel Hurricane Gold, written by Charlie Higson, we are meet by a teenage boy named James Bond. He is a handsome young adventurous boy that is a hero in the making, with a reputation for being were trouble lies along with a license to kill. From the very beginning of the book the setting and storyline suggest to the reader that the book's packed with adventure along with twists and turns. The setting of the novel takes place during the 1930's, James is on vacation with his aunt and guardian, Chairman, in Mexico. James' aunt is an anthropologist who wishes to see the Mayan ruins of Plalenque. Chairman knowing a friend and former pilot, Jack Stone, goes to visit him in his residential home in Tres Hermanas. But a storm is beginning to form both in the sky and in the city. A hurricane is about to hit the small city of Tres Hermanas, James' aunt leaves with Jack on a small plane before the storm hits, leaving James with the two children of Jack, Precious and JJ. But the storm is only the beginning of there problems.

Awaiting the tree children are many obstacles and challenges that will put the reader at the edge of their seat, one of which is facing one of the deadliest criminals of all time. The suspense and romantic tension between James and Precious is something that was unexpected between the two and is sure to move the hearts of those who read about it. However at times the plot became confusing, but it straightened out eventually. The story occasionally struggles to keep up the pace when James and Precious are on the road to save her father and James' aunt and the climax of the book is just a little bit too unbelievable, but apart from that there are little to few faults. It's a fantastic book from start to finish. The theme of the story was, never giving up not matter how much you think you should, no matter how tired you are, no matter how hopeless the situation is. This can be seen when James says to Precious during the rat run, "We can make it...we've it this far, haven't we? We're nearly at the end. There are only three obstacles left after this"(Higson, pg.332).

After the tropical hurricane storm, James is entrusted with the care of the two children of Jack Stone, for during the storm the house had been destroyed along with being robbed by thugs that wanted to steal documents owned by Mr. Stone. Because of this James learns that he needs to take care of others before himself, and that they need to persevere in order to survive in the hurricane revenged land of Mexico. Hurricane Gold is impeccably plotted and skilfully written. Higson appears to have adopted Ian Fleming's somewhat sparse writing style, keeping things simple and flowing for his younger audience, while still keeping it exciting and thoroughly enjoyable.

If you like the Young Bond series, and haven't tried the Anthony Horowitz Alex Rider series, I would strongly recommend them.

    I Also Recommend:

    Best Young Bond book YET!

This book has a plot, but Mr. Higson spent his time on the action more than anything. There were many characters, with only a few with real depth. But those are the only flaws. The action sequences are great! Bond was more mature this time, and his chemistry with Precious was very strong. An adrenaline-pumped book!
