Overview

Along with a strong focus on patient care the new Hurst's The Heart includes a new look and organization. Each chapter has been systematically overhauled with an emphasis on streamlining the content for a focused presentation of the LATEST THERAPEUTIC STRATEGIES and the EVIDENCE-BASED DATA that support them. CLINICAL GUIDELINES are included to equip you with the critical information for optimal patient care in an increasingly time-pressured, cost/benefit environment.

The major changes that await you in the tenth edition of The Heart start with the dynamic new author team. Led by Valentin Fuster, Wayne Alexander and Robert A. O'Rourke, the editors have assembled an international group of thought leaders in cardiology who are distinguished not only by their academic prowess, but also by their clinical expertise. They know the latest treatment approaches because they practice them daily and document them here for you with precision.

The New 10th Edition of Hurst's The Heart is dramatically revised, and uniquely focused on the evolving demands of your daily practice:

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Jason A. Mitchell, MD (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This well written, comprehensive cardiology textbook updates the previous edition of 2001.
Purpose: The authors provide an up-to-date cardiology textbook that emphasizes not only therapeutic strategies, but also the etiology, pathology, and altered physiology behind the disease states.
Audience: This book is appropriate for anyone involved in the care of patients with cardiovascular diseases including students, house officers, and staff cardiologists who need a comprehensive reference.
Features: The book, through its 16 parts and 108 chapters, covers the entire field of cardiology. New additions to this edition include genetics, new imaging technology, pulmonary hypertension, and advances in interventional cardiology. The ACC/AHA guidelines are emphasized throughout. The book is comprehensive, and at the same time easy to read. For example, chapter 73 deals with congenital heart disease and the use of new (MR, CT) imaging modalities, latest surgical treatments with diagrams, and clear explanations of the altered physiology. In addition, the book has its own Web site where chapters are continually updated as clinical trials are released.
Assessment: This is an outstanding textbook for general cardiology that can be highly recommended. This edition is justified in a rapidly evolving field such as cardiology. The Web site with its continually updated chapters will help to keep this information current.
