    GREAT READ!

This was a great mystery, full of twists and turns. There were lots of red herrings thrown in that had you guessing up till the end.

I love the character, Kate. She has flaws and yet is qiute likable. A rather genuine character that I am sure will become one of my favotite detectives.

This was well-edited and a very quick read. The charater development was great. This was my first read from this author, and I cannot wait to go get the next in the series.

On a side note, I must address the reviewer who said they could not stand all of the gay stuff in the book. Kate's partner is gay. That's it. There are no gratuitous sex scenes between gay lovers. There is nothing disgusting about it. He is a character. He is a gay officer that has a partner at home. It is not the focus of the book, its called character development.

    130 pages plus excerpt

I have a grippe to air and then will continue my review. Shelly MA, a reviewer always smarts off on her reviews and tells other readers to quit reading reviews and just read the book. How ignorant, can she be? Leaving a review for people to read, then telling them not to read it? DUH! She always writes her reviews exactly the same everytime. I do not even think she reads the books. She thinks she is funny, but is really just being a horse's patoot.

This book is about 130 pages long. There is an excerpt at the end, which is about another 20 pages long, then there are some author comments. This book was set in England. It is about a women police officer, I think she would be a detective, by American ranking. There is some English slang. The murder and violence are not very graphic. The editing is pretty good. Who and whydunit was not much of a mystery. There is little romance, no humor and a typical kiddnapping plot. There is homosexuslity and sex in this short novel. No religion. It is part of a series. The ending was okay, but there were no surprizes. The heroine, Kate has a troubled past, which is affecting her ability to function normally in all sectors of her life. For ages 18 and up.

Just kept making me read more

There were at least a dozen times in the first half of this Celina Grace novel that I thought "Why am I even continuing this" ... but each time, just a little twist in the plot made me want to read "just one more chapter."
The plot develops slowly, typical British prose, but maintains just enough intrigue to want the reader to continue.
The murder-kidnapping mystery has the usual number of suspects, none seemingly very strong suspects, but all possibly the criminal the detectives were trying to find.
My reader said the book was 170 pages, and when I got to page 125, the plot took another interesting twist and I'm thinking "Oh, another 30 pages of intrigue" and then, like "slam, bam, thank you ma'am," it was over, done, complete.
Did Celina Grace get tired of writing this novel?
I was disappointed with the conclusion ... not that the crime was solved, but it was somewhat like watching a Startrek one-hour TV show where Picard and Crew are up to their necks in danger for 55 minutes, then the whole plot is resolved in three minutes, and there's two minutes of "they lived happily ever after."
Throughout, the plot is very shallow ... just like the conclusion!
Oh, the final 30 pages or so of the book ... promotional for the next novel. Sorry Ms Grace ... not me. Or, at least, not until you learn to write a more realistic conclusion that does not say, "Reader, you're an idiot ... I'm done ... here's the conclusion ... now, will someone pour me another cup of tea."

    good mystery

I enjoyed this book, no sappy romances! The people and dialoge could be "real life" circumstances; and i didn't guess the ending!

Unfortunately, British authors aren't my favorite read.

I thought maybe this would be the exception but I found words I wasn't sure of are not part of Nook's dictionary. Kate's past makes her appear to have a chip on her shoulder and you do not know what that is until about 3/4 of the story. Until then, the story doesn't come together.
