Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

The hero of Bach's new book, pilot and flight instructor Jamie Forbes, is on a routine run when Maria, the panicked spouse of another pilot, radios that her husband has collapsed at the controls. Forbes talks her through the steps to land safely. Maria's explanation to reporters that Forbes "hypnotized" her sparks a series of memories for Jamie, and the events that follow force him to examine what constitutes reality, to contemplate what lies beyond the edges of our carefully constructed worlds and whether those edges are real or created by our own limitations. While it mines the same territory as The Secret, Bach's book is far richer, raising provocative questions and striking the perfect balance, providing answers without implying that they are the only-or necessarily the right-ones. Fantastic Reading to evolve your own thoughts!

I believe that Richard Bach is back with this book; it is beautifully written and so awe-inspiring to realize how easy it is to reconnect with our inner self and to enjoy life to the fullest.

I loved this book and have already re-read it several times and continue to get more each time.

Richard Bach Has Done It Again

I have always enjoyed Richard Bach's books, but his latest 'Hynotizing Maria' is one of his best. When I first began readng it, I was not sure if I would like it and the more I read, the harder I found to put it down. The truth he gives in this small book is an aspect of the mind I had not considered. I recommend this for those who are searching for a meaning to life or whose life appears to be in the doldrums or lacking. Bettye Johnson

    I Also Recommend:

Bach explores nature of reality and self in "Hypnotizing Maria"

In Hypnotizing Maria Richard Bach once again leads the reader through a tale exploring the nature of reality and the power of the human spirit. Much in the style of previous titles like "One," Running from Safety," "Illusions, the Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah," and the much acclaimed "Jonathan Livingston Seagull," "Hypnotizing Maria" explores a few days in the life of flying instructor Jamie Forbes and how they give insight into the nature of his being. A chance occurrence on a cross country flight (Bach again makes use of his love of flying to weave a beautiful story) leads Jamie to ask questions about his past experiences and how they continue to affect his life's journey.

As is his custom Bach does not spend extensive time on character development; rather he focuses his attention on the philosophical elements of his story. Long time Bach readers will find many of the ideas and concepts familiar. But the themes of self determination, the relationship to our fellow huiman beings, and the question of "might we be something more" are enjoyable again and again.

HYPNOTIZING MARIA is a thought provoking philosophical character driven thriller

Flight instructor Jamie Forbes was flying from Washington State to Florida when he is just north of Cheyenne and an hour from North Platte, Nebraska when he receives the panicked SOS from sexagenarian Maria Ochoa who says she thinks her husband is dead. Her spouse Juan was flying them when he collapsed into unconsciousness. Calmly Jamie talks Marie, who never flew before, through the steps to safely land the plane before finishing his own flight; as he did not stick around for his fifteen minutes of fame.

Afterward reporters question Maria, who insists a stranger entered her plane and hypnotized her into landing the plane before disappearing. Hearing Maria's commentary leads to Jamie contemplate what is real even as he meets his own angelic guiding stranger and learns how to truly teach is to guide but allow your students to do.

HYPNOTIZING MARIA is a thought provoking philosophical character driven thriller. The story line is a fast-paced one sitting novella as Jamie (and readers) contemplates what is reality and how does one truly instruct someone else when each has there own interpretation of what they sense is real. Richard Bach soars with this cerebral tale that will leave his audience pondering metaphysical questions and challenging Jamie's answers to them; wonderfully encouraged by the author to do just that as the right answer is personal.
