Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Audio
In this audio edition of Colbert’s children’s book, Tom Hanks performs a rhyming story about a metal pole suffering from an existential crisis. The pole goes through numerous jobs—he tries working at a barber shop; he tries working at a strip club—before (spoiler alert) deciding to become a flag pole: “the very best kind of pole that I could hope to be.” A large portion of this eight-minute production features Colbert interrupting Hanks by trying to read the title’s ISBN and by attempting to convince Hanks to re-read the text in Spanish. Despite its brevity, this audiobook boasts excellent production values, a soundtrack, and an entertaining reading from Hanks—he is, after all, an Academy Award–winning actor—who has excellent chemistry with Colbert. A Grand Central hardcover. (May)

Meet the Author

Stephen Colbert was The Daily Show's longest-running and most diverse correspondent. His personality, insight and overall rightness could only lead to The Colbert Report, a half-hour nightly platform for him to give his take on the issues of the day, and, more importantly, to tell you why everyone else's take is just plain wrong. The show has been hugely successful.

I just bought this on my new nook Tablet and, like Maurice Sendak, I enjoyed it; I will go ahead and say I loved it! I don' t have kids, but if ever I do, this is a book they will learn by heart. It has a great message about being what you are meant to be, finding who you are through trial and error, then has a lovely finish. The rhyming is quite nice, too. I am a pole and so can YOU! :-)

This was a stupendous appeal to both my 21 year old political consciousness, and my 6 year old sense of humor. A perfect blend of patriotism, wit, and double entendre.

I saw this on an episode of The Colbert Report, and thought he was joking. This book is freakin' awesome!

Enjoyed it, even teared up a bit. It's sad and ironic that Maurice Sendak died today, the day this book was released.

Its a childrens book. I loved stephens other book (im america so can you) but this book was not at all like his first book. This is a childrens book, and while it may be great for your kid, i was really disapointed.

"I Am a Pole (And So Can You!)" was published 05/08/2012, the same day that Maurice Sendak dies. Strange!
