Overview

The twelfth book in the internationally best-selling fantasy adventure series that inspired the forthcoming major motion picture Seventh Son. Told from the point of view of Alice, best friend—and true love—to Tom, the Spook's last apprentice. Alice is the most powerful witch in the world, and she ventures into the dark itself. Will she return?

Alice Dean's destiny is intertwined with Tom Ward's. But he's going to be the next Spook, and she's a witch—possibly the most powerful one the world has ever seen. To rid the world of its greatest evil, the Fiend, Alice will venture into the depths of the dark for the final weapon Tom needs to defeat him. Will she survive? Or will she make the ultimate sacrifice for Tom? The Last Apprentice series is soon to be a major motion picture, Seventh Son, starring Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes, Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington, Olivia Williams, Antje Traue, Djimon Hounsou and Julianne Moore as Mother Malkin. It's a suspenseful thrill-ride that's "spine-tingling" (Publishers Weekly) and "anything but tame" (Horn Book). But don't read it after dark!

Editorial Reviews

Horn Book
"Anything but tame."
VOYA - Vikki Terrile
Knowing the only way to destroy the Fiend for good is to allow her beloved Tom Ward to kill her, Alice journeys to the dark to find the dagger he must use to complete the deed. There she meets Thorne, the dead apprentice of the assassin Grimalkin, and together they face enemies old and new on their quest for the dagger. Although Alice is one of the most interesting characters in Delaney's series, this twelfth book, told in her first-person narration, does nothing to advance the series' story arc. Half of the book is flashback, recounting Alice's days with Bony Lizzie, the witch who trained her and turned out to be her mother. The rest, a plodding chain of encounters with the dark creatures Alice and Thorne face before finding the dagger that will help them destroy the Fiend, is completely pointless since, in the last chapter, Grimalkin shows up with—surprise—another way to kill him. As in earlier books, Delaney's narrative is repetitive (Alice announces her fear of spiders, flies, and other "creepy-crawlies" over and over) and flat. The sudden arrival of Grimalkin with a solution that renders the preceding four-hundred-plus pages unnecessary is insulting to the reader and makes the entire book seem like nothing more than a way to prolong an already overlong series. Fans who have stuck with the books this long will likely be relieved Tom will not have to kill Alice, but Delaney's resolution is the height of lazy writing. Reviewer: Vikki Terrile

I was taken in a ride when I read this and in the end I was so happy, when I read this book alic went into the dark thinking she would have no friends but only enemies, but she does have one friend; one very powerful friend with no thumbs but skilled with a blade. This is on amazingly epic book I  Have never truly  been on the edge of my seat when reading till I read this book.

This was the best book and book series I've ever read. Fabulousl

This was the best book and book series I've ever read. Fabulously written. I loose myself in the movie in my head made by Delaney. He is truly an artist, worthy of more attention than he is given. Tom became someone I cared for, I thought of him as a friend throughout the series, going through everything with him. Simply brilliant. And now I am shockingly sad to see that the movie looks nothing like Delaney's writing, is almost unrecognisable to the story line. I probably wont even see it, for fear it will ruin the greatness of The Last Apprentice Series.

    I guarantee you.....

Alice's mark is going to become a full moon trying to save Tom. I dont want it to happen, but because authors are cruel it probably will. Great story!

    One of the best!

I've been reading all the last apprentice books and some are better than others but this one is just freaking good! It kept the suspence to the very end and the final twist is just incredible! Hope they release another soon!
