Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Melinda M. Sprinkle
Angela is finally old enough to attend a sleep-away camp. Her unpredictable behavior leads her on many adventures and often into uncomfortable predicaments. Angela's love of nature becomes obvious as readers join her at camp, at the zoo, and while walking her neighbor's dogs. She often becomes preoccupied, but always manages to overcome the obstacles facing her. To Angela and most children, the trauma of never having enough money and difficulties with friends are very serious. During this five-part story, Angela matures and learns ways to solve and overcome trying situations.
School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 2-3Children, especially girls who march to a different drummer, will appreciate the triumphs and travails of this protagonist. Angela, though never quite in step with her peers, is an endearing character nonetheless. Brief chapters deal with different episodes in her young life, including her first sojourn to summer camp, getting lost at the zoo, and a harrowing stint as a professional dog walker. Readers who aren't quite ready for Ramona Quimby should enjoy Angela's comical adventures. This charming step-up reader is enhanced by whimsical pen-and-ink drawings highlighted with shades of green. Strong characterization and a nice selection of situations filled with child appeal make this a good choice for collections needing early chapter books.Rosalyn Pierini, San Luis Obispo City-County Library, CA
