Overview

"This book fills a tremendous void…" wrote E. Fuller Torrey, M.D., about the first edition of I AM NOT SICK, I Don't Need Help! Ten years later, it still does. Dr. Amador's research on poor insight was inspired by his attempts to help his brother Henry, who developed schizophrenia, accept treatment. Like tens of millions of others diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, Henry did not believe he was ill.

In this latest edition, 6 new chapters have been added, new research on anosognosia (lack of insight) is presented and new advice, relying on lessons learned from thousands of LEAP seminar participants, is given to help readers quickly and effectively use Dr. Amador’s method for helping someone accept treatment.

I AM NOT SICK, I Don't Need Help! is not just a reference for mental health practitioners or law enforcement professionals. It is a must-read guide for family members whose loved ones are battling mental illness. A Must Read For Families Who Have a Family Member with Mental Illness

I strongly recommend this book to anyone with a family member with mental illness. In the last couple of years it was determined my 40 year old daughter has this illness. This is a well accomplished woman, college grad, excelled in all goals set for her at her job, funny, smart and a passion for giving.
Her world has come tumbling down and this book gave me insight about the illness and a reality check of what the future holds.

Well written book about a difficlt process for those with mental illness and how their loved ones can help

Dr. Amador has a system of listening and conversation that family members can use with a person with mental illness that is respectful and honest without taking the responsibility for medical treatment away from the person. Excellent book!

Thanks to Dr. Amador's passionate and persuasive book, I was abl

Thanks to Dr. Amador's passionate and persuasive book, I was able to stop making the situation even worse than it already was. This book literally turned my family's life around and gave me my son back. I credit the techniques taught here for doing more to help us live with this disease than anything else we have found. It definitely has improved his quality of life and everyone who loves him. It is not unreasonable to say that this book most likely has already saved my son's life. It offered hope where there had been none. No wonder it was so highly recommended by NAMI.
