Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
This acclaimed memoir, reprinted here with a new introduction by Tim Pat Coogan, deals with an Irish American's efforts to come to terms with his cultural roots. (Mar.)
Library Journal - Library Journal
Brown, a third-generation Irish American, here chronicles his increasing attachment to his roots, which eventually led him to a deeper search among the people of Ireland. Despite much of the book being set against the backdrop of the IRA/British struggle, LJ's reviewer found it rich with "sensitivity and good humor" and observed that the "paradoxical character of Irishmen-who fight for the joy of fighting-has rarely been better described" (LJ 11/15/74).
