Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
09/30/2013
After creating and maintaining a hugely popular online following for her loveable cat character Pusheen, Belton’s first book is a selection of comics from the Web series, plus some new content. The book is organized in an episodic, gag-style format, without a narrative but with occasional longer segments such as “A Year in the Life of Pusheen.” The artistic style is heavily borrowed from Japanese cartoons, most notably Hello Kitty. Due to the derivative style and lack of its own voice, the book has trouble finding its footing, both visually and tonally. Most of the jokes are fairly tired, such as a sequence depicting a New Year’s resolution failing to pan out or the endless Garfield-esque references to food consumption. The best gags employ antihumor, such as when Pusheen demonstrates fanciness by sporting a monocle and moustache and riding a unicorn. Still, it’s hard to overestimate the appeal of adorable cats on the Internet, where even the most familiar material will find an audience ready to soak in the cute. (Oct.)
Anthony Clark
"Pusheen is easily the most charming of all internet cats!"
Gemma Correll
"Pusheen is the most adorable, squishy little nugget of felinity that has ever graced the fair pages of my Internet browser. I want to eat her, like a tiny grey cute-flavoured marshmallow."
Jeph Jacques
"I thought I was tired of cat gifs until I discovered Pusheen."
Jess Fink
"Pusheen is a little bouncy marshmallow of a cat who perfectly combines absolute cuteness and absolute trouble, which is, as all cat lovers know, why we love them."
Fernando Alfonso III
"When it comes to famous Internet cats, Pusheen rules the litter box. The cute plump feline is Tumblr's premier kitty. With clean and simple shapes, Claire Belton's cartoon is a mix of Hello Kitty's cuteness and Felix the Cat's adventurous spirit."
Will Zweigart
"Pusheen teaches us how to LIVE: Nap as hard as you party. Seek out the small joys in life, and eat them. Eat everything. And keep moving."
Fred Seibert
“Claire Belton has made Pusheen one of the world’s great characters. The talent and imagination [here] could power enough love to save the world. If Pusheen doesn’t capture your heart, I will personally refund your money.”
Matt Inman
"Much like an actual cat, this book manages to be funny, weird, and lovably adorable all at the same time. You will love Pusheen and you will love this book."
Kate Beaton
"Pusheen is what everyone else wishes they had come up with after the internet was invented. It is also possibly the reason the internet was invented in the first place. Now that it's a book, I fully expect it to resurrect the print industry as a whole."

This is a quick, cute, hilarious read.

The drawings are fun and adorable. Humor filled tag lines adorn and help explain the drawings.

A winner! I already bought another copy for a gift!

I bought this for my 12 year-old son at Christmas and he LOVED it. He read it over and over. We don't even have a cat, but he loved the illustrations and text. I also bought this for a 6 year-old neighbor who just had surgery. His mom reported that he wanted it read every night for weeks.

The awesome gray kitty of the Internet in paperback form!

This book contains some of the favorite Pusheen adventures from the website (sans animation) and quite a number of new material. Already waiting for the sequel!

It's great for those Pusheen withdrawals when you're nowhere near the computer to laugh online. And the cover? Pusheen had me at scooter. :)

Christmas present. Birthday present. Any present. NOW.
