Overview

Laura’s mother was given a choice: stay with her partner or betray her daughter. She betrayed her daughter.

I BEG TO DIFFER: A Memoir of Bosses, Boyfriends & Mom’s Evil Lesbian Lover is the true life tale of a charming New York City girl (raised by a hippie mom in Woodstock) navigating her way through the loss of her loving relationship with her mother while juggling madcap temp jobs at famous firms and romantic adventures with crazy guys.

What made Mom turn against her only daughter? It was Pam, her lover, who cooked up a witches’ brew of dastardly deeds that would either send Laura over the edge or exorcise her out of the family.

But our heroine is no shrinking violet. She fights her way through the hard times after being robbed of both her money—and her mother’s love.

Flip to the lighter side: The author has been crafting humorous anecdotes about her workplace and dating escapades since 1997. Her website, Laura’s NYC Tales, was a hit in the blogosphere before the word existed. Laura’s best stories from her site have been interwoven throughout I BEG TO DIFFER. Some highlights:

• Laura gives the inside scoop while temping at Tiffany’s, tabulating case studies at Viagra, and working at one of Condé Nast’s trendy magazines.

• What roster of A-list Hollywood celebrities did she chat with after getting comedian Chris Rock’s old cell phone number?

• How did she get her father’s friend to proposition her for a $10,000 sexual favor… and how happy was the ending?

• What grip did the dashing Brit have on her that they would be dumpster diving for food on date nights?

I BEG TO DIFFER: A Memoir of Bosses, Boyfriends & Mom’s Evil Lesbian Lover is quirky and clever, funny and tragic, saucy yet self-effacing. Stripped of all its amusing décor, it’s a poignant, down-to-earth story about finding inner strength, never giving up on yourself, and never letting go of your dreams.

Meet the Author

A native New Yorker, Laura, her brother, and her mom moved to Woodstock, NY, following her parent’s divorce. From luxe City digs to a wood stove-heated shack in the woods and a chicken coop outside her bedroom window, little Laura was torn between two worlds: culture-filled weekends visiting Dad in bustling Manhattan and life in the country communing with the trees. Laura’s diverse upbringing created a unique and quirky character that mixes “city hip” with “country cool.”

Laura continues to inhabit these two great worlds. Spending weekdays working in Manhattan, you’ll find her dressed to the nines, gallivanting around town and enjoying the finery that New York has to offer. Come the weekend, she’ll be back at her cottage in Woodstock, splitting wood, chasing away bears, and forever hoping that her well doesn’t freeze in the deep of winter.
