Overview

In the middle of America, on Route 44, Amy Lewis has a plan to get to her grandma's house in time for dinner. But she's being pursued by a very bad wolf.

Galaxies away Loki is waking up in a prison cell, strangely without a hangover, and with no idea what he's done wrong—this time anyway. But he does know Thor is hiding something, Odin is up to something wicked, and there seems to be something he's forgotten ...

In this tale that is equal parts "Another Fine Myth," "American Gods," and "Once Upon a Time," a very nice midwestern girl and a jaded, still very mischievous Loki must join forces to outwit Norse gods, elves, magic sniffing cats, and nosy neighbors. If Loki can remember exactly what he's forgotten and Amy can convince him not to be too distracted by Earthly gadgets, her breasts, or three day benders, they just might pull it off.

This first installment of "I Bring the Fire" is for anyone who suspects chaos, tricksters, and mischief makers might have their own redeeming qualities, and anyone who just wants an epic fantasy romp through contemporary Earth, ancient Asgard, and beyond!

Meet the Author

C. Gockel got her start writing fanfiction, and she is not ashamed! Much. She received emails, messages and reviews from her fans telling her she should 'do this professionally'. She didn't; because she is a coward and life as a digital designer, copywriter and coder is more dependable. But in the end, her husband's nagging wore her down: "You could be the next '50 Shades of Gray' and I could retire!" Unfortunately, the author isn't much for writing smut. She is sad about this; she'd love for her husband to be able to retire and just work for her so she could nag him.

At the moment Ms. Gockel is putting the finishing touches on "I Bring the Fire Part III: Chaos".

Ms. Gockel loves to hear from readers. She can be reached by email at: cgockel.publishing@gmail.com

    Funny and intriguing story

I loved reading this book! I felt connected to the characters, cheering on loki and amy and it was a surprisingly catchy plot with how easily the author switches between high stress drama and hilarious oneliners. My single complaint is that POV sometimes changes very drastically which lends to confusion.

I've always been VERY VERY stingy when it comes to Norse mytholo

I've always been VERY VERY stingy when it comes to Norse mythology, as it is one of my favourite pantheons to study. This book does NOT disappoint. I honestly did not want to put this book down, and audibly swore (shouted "Paskat"...you can look it up) when I reached the end of the first part. I didn't want the book to end! (Of course I immediately went out and bought the second part...and once I get a bit more money, I'll grab the third part....curse you student loans!)
It did take me a while to adjust to C. Gockel's writing style, as she writes in the present tense as opposed to the usual past tense one finds in most books. Once I got past that, it was smooth sailing and a very enjoyable read. The author for the most part keeps to the actual Lokean mythos, with a few artistic interpretations that I greatly enjoyed. This is not the Loki of the comics or the movies, this is the real deal.
If you want to try out the book to see if you'd like it, then snag part I. Personally, if I'd known I could have snagged all three parts of the novel at once, I would have done that right off the bat! I can't wait to start on the next part.

For some reason it hates me making a pen name.  :(

    Norse mythology

This is a pretty good book, its well based and the characters are well developed. It clearly explains things and the plot and attention to detail makes it feel like a good 400 page turner instead of a 187 page novel.

    Really enjoyed this read!

I liked just about everything about this book - the characters, the history, the present-tense viewpoint. A real gem in the 'try this series for free, see if you like it!' bin, and I definitely won't mind paying for the rest of the series. Good job, Gockel! I can't wait to see what Loki gets himself into next, and how Amy deals with whatever her 'friend' brings her into. I'm glad I let him into my home.

I loved this book! I got it as a freebie through Bookbub (full disclosure) and it immediately hooked me. I've read the first three books in less than a week, and I can't put them down. What I initially took to be a cutesy story about Norse gods in modern Chicago, quickly gained depth as I grew to knew the characters and the plot thickened. If you loved Neil Gaimen's 'American Gods' or Mur Lafferty's "Afterlife series" you'll love this irreverent series starring the trickster god, Loki, and his new human friend, Amy the veterinary student!

Very good. I am buying the rest of the series. Don't generally like conflicted protagonists but Loki has enough self-directed humor to make it interesting rather than sad.

    Awesome!!!!!!

This novel was awesome. It was funny, quirky, heart breaking and thrilling at the same time. The mixure of mythology and modernism was balanced and did not seem streched. Overall I loved this book! Can't wait to read the rest of the series!

    Interesting

Very different kind of book, story line and characters. Have read first two books and will probably finish the series. Not your average run of the mill story and therefore enjoyable to read
