Children's LiteratureBefore getting into the story there is a note to educators and parents. It explains the purpose of the "I Can Do It" series, which is to help young children accomplish simple tasks. Also, the books are designed to engage readers through familiar topics and realistic photographs that support the text. Initially they are designed for guided reading and when a child develops fluency, they can be read independently. The kids in this book are making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The ingredients are assembled and the sandwich is made. Those who are careful observers may wonder why after the sandwich was cut, that the girl eating one is shown with the sandwich whole. A three-word glossary, decent bibliography, web site reference, index and blurb about the author round out the book. 2005, Weekly Reader Early Learning Library, Ages 5 to 7.
