A Velcro tab holds this folder book together. Inside are three sets of flip cards. A parents' guide describes in detail how to proceed. Pack 1 includes cards with an equation of no more than five images. One side of the card has symbols in an equation ending with a question mark. The flip side of the card includes the appropriate numbers and the answer to the problem. Parents are advised to help the child count the symbols on their fingers and then subtract by hiding fingers, etc. Pack 2 advances to ten images/numbers in each equation. Pack 3 introduces the concept of subtracting two smaller numbers from a larger number. Similar to flash cards, this is an introduction to early counting and the concept of subtraction. Nice bright colors and humorous images add to the appeal. 2000, Kingfisher, Ages 4 to 8, $9.95. Reviewer: Kristin Harris—Children's Literature
