Overview

Your life will never be the same again! The I Ching can entirely change the way you see things, helping you recognize and resolve anxieties and fears, fulfill your every desire; and release hidden energies. Developed over 3,000 years ago in China, it was originally intended only for rulers, but now can help anyone. Inspired by Carl Jung's insights into the psyche, and researched for more than 50 years through the aid of the Eranos Foundation of Switzerland, this fully revised edition offers much more than just a new translation. It presents the oracular core of the I Ching as a psychological tool and a way of connecting with the creative imagination. The original imagery is retained in its entirety, so all the symbols can interact with your mind just as dream images do. Consult it for any question that concerns you, and it will become an active sourcebook for the care of the soul.

The best I Ching or close to it.

The word for word concordance (a dictionary-like translation/elaboration, for every word of every hexagram), which is repeated in the chapter of each hexagram, is a great help, even if it adds to the obscure quality that this work has in the best of cases. Karcher also includes his own free flowing explanation, like most versions of this work. He tends to be more encouraging and optimistic than most. Of the dozen or so translations of the book that I have, I usually look at this one first, then Huang's, then Baynes/Wilhem. Cleary's is perhaps the most obscure and seems to have an agenda that might or might not be consistent with the book's intent. Legge frequently asserts his bewilderment with the text, which tends to detract from his status as an authority. At the same time, anyone who claims not to be somewhat bewildered by this book, even after years of study, must either have truly acheived the ultimate mastery or be false.
