Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Children's Literature
Ellie and Miley are puppy-friends who feel brave when they explore the tall grass. They play hide-and-seek and Miley feels puzzled when he can't find Ellie hiding in a bush. When Miley makes a strange noise, Ellie feels scared. Then she is glad when Miley pokes his head out from the bush. Chasing each other through the flowers, the friends feel happy. After their fun, the friends are bored. Suddenly, they jump up! An idea excites them. Miley shows Ellie his scooter and feels proud to have thought of such a good idea. But then Ellie's scooter skills make Miley jealous. Ellie goes home and Miley feels lonely. Miley's mother suggests he talk to his friend. Miley feels a little bit shy and ashamed but the friends make up. The puppies are easy for small children to identify with and their antics give a perfect introduction to the complex world of emotions. 2000, DK Publishing, Ages 2 to 5, $9.95.
