Overview

An honest and inspirational story of dreaming big, winning big, and losing big, by one of today’s most-beautiful voices and brightest Hollywood stars.

Exciting, inspirational, and honest, I Got This is Jennifer’s journey from a girl growing up on Chicago’s South Side to performing on the American Idol stage, where she heard not one but numerous remarks about her look not being right for stardom.

Tired of always trying to look the part, and raising a son for whom Jennifer wanted to set a good example, she decided to get healthy. She would lose the weight, once and for all—not for a role, not for a record label, but for herself. Teaming up with Weight Watchers and using their PointsPlus® program, Jennifer learned how to think about food differently, and in the process, changed her life for the better. In I Got This, she’ll show you how she embraced Weight Watchers as a realistic, healthy way of life and helps anyone who has ever suffered from a weight problem to do the same.

    Amazing

This is an amazing book by an amazing woman. I have never heard Jennifer sing, never saw her on the big screen. I only came to know of her through weight watchers, which prompted me to preorder her book. I laughed, cried tears of joy, and laughed some more. This book is so well written you feel like you have been right there with her through ups and ups, not downs as she stays upbeat no matter what. A true lady of the lord, a family girl, a real woman.

    Good Story but...

You can tell that Jennifer is not a writer. Although I do admire her for wanting to do this on her own, the book just doesn't 'flow' all that well. Lots of simple sentences ('My mama said this'. 'I couldn't believe it'. 'Singing is my thing'. Etc.) I think this would make a better audiobook than one to sit down and read cover to cover.

Love Jennifer Hudson, and think she's got an amazing story to tell, but she should've collaborated with a professional to write this book.

Excellent For People On Weight Watchers! EXCELLENT FOR WEIGHT WATCHERS!

People not on WW might find this book boring since explains the science behind weightloss but it's an inspiring success story. A must-read for someone wanting to lose weight without prepackaged food!

    Too Much Weght Watchers

I am so disappointed with this book. I ordered it before it actually came out, so no customer reviews. The writing was very simplistic and at least half the book was about Weight Watchers. I skimmed through so many pages that I feel I didn't get what I paid for. I love Jennifer & have followed her career since she was on American Idol, and I would have loved to read more about her & MUCH less about WW.

    Ok but not greaat

I enjoyed the book but was disappointed that she didnt discuss or comment on the horriblr and tragic murder of her family. It would have been interesting to learn how she overcame that emotional journey than any other challenge.

    Good book but...

I really liked the book at first and couldn't put it down. In the beginning she was talking about herself and her family and all the trials she went through to get to where she is now. But about half way through the book, she started talking about how she lost weight. From that point on, I felt it was a WW book. That was all she talked about. I even found myself skipping over pages because they started saying the same thing about WW over and over again. It became a huge promotion for them and I lost complete interest in the book. It was very hard to finish it.

    it good book

this book was made to let people know how she lost her weight and how your apperence means in the entertianment lifestyle. i read the review on here and i notice that people said that it would of been better if she stop mentioning weight watchers. but the book was made for that purpose. it is to tell people her experince losing her weight on weight watchers. and how she made a choice on how to take control over her health. this is a good book she gives u her background and her challenges she went through.

    Health and Exercise
The book "I Got This" is about how Jennifer Hudson struggled with other people accepting her appearance. Jennifer loved her body whether she weighed 250 pounds or 150 pounds. Jennifer was always asked to either gain or lose weight in short period of times. This is very unhealthy. Once Jennifer had her son, she decided she wanted to get healthy so she could be there for her son. She started weight watchers which isn’t a diet it’s just watching what you eat. She lost 80 pounds. She said the only reason she lost the weight is to be healthy enough to take of her son.

Throughout the book, Jennifer is always sending the message that she didn’t care what she looked like. She didn’t think appearance was a big thing and that people could look past her appearance and just like her for her talent. But in Hollywood that is not the case. She also describes how the only reason she lost weight was because she wanted to healthy. She used the weight watchers points program to track what she eats but she could eat whatever she wanted to. The key to losing weight is to eat right and exercise. She had tried a bunch of diets but none worked like weight watchers. The theme of this book is to let people know how and why she lost weight because she went through a period of time where people didn’t like her because she did lose weight.

In the book, I liked how you heard her whole story from American idol to now an Oscar winner. She talks about how everything in the music and movie industry that it’s all about the appearance and if you have that then they will look at your talent. Which I liked because a lot of stars do just think about the appearance and not the talent. In the book, I didn’t like how she was kind of advertising weight watchers a lot because I am not interested in how weight watchers works.

If you are looking to read a book about health and the struggles a lot of people have with weight then this is the book for you. Also, if you are a huge fan of Jennifer then you should defiantly read this because it’s all about her life. I really enjoyed listening to Jennifer's story and how much she went through to get to where she is today.

    Disappointed

I was very disappointed in this book. It contained some general informtion about her singing and acting careers and then rambled on about Weight Watchers. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

    Great for starting a diet

I just joined Weight Watchers. This book helped me with motivation. I love bio's and found her story great, but a great deal of the book is about weight watchers, so not sure if its a good read for those not on weight watchers.
