Publishers Weekly called Toast "a delightfully cheeky guide for today's working wife and mother . . . there are some gems here" and "a lighthearted book that should bring smiles to anyone who runs a household in the '90s." With chapters such as "I'd Rather Be Forty Than Pregnant," "Freaky Clean," and "It's All Geek to Me," Suzann lends her unmistakable comic voice to the chorus of fortysomethings pondering the meaning of life in suburbia, noting, in typically hilarious fashion, the dictum: Never keep up with the Joneses. Drag them down to your level. I Have Everything I Had Twenty Years Ago is a wonderful collection of humor essays sharing Suzann's take on the flip-side of parenting, grandparenting, family life, sports, politics, and modern "conveniences."

From the author of The Toast Always Lands Jelly-Side Down comes a fresh and funny look at life's foibles. Ledbetter's humorous essays take on the flip-side of parenting, grandparenting, family life, sports, politics, and modern "conveniences." 20 line drawings.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Cahners\\Publishers_Weekly
Ledbetter, a contributing editor to Family Circle magazine, reports on domestic life from the vantage point of a 40-something mother of four, as she did in her earlier collection, The Toast Always Lands Jelly-side Down. Most of the 30-plus articles deal with Ledbetter's misadventures as a working parent, including the tribulations of carpooling, Christmas shopping, dealing with household gadgets, male inefficiency and packing for trips. Although there are occasional funny highlights, such as Ledbetter's "You know it's gonna be a bad day when..." list, some of the author's humor is labored and out of date. By the end of this collection, Ledbetter's persona as a bemused career woman struggling gamely to cope against the odds has worn very thin.

Library Journal
Trying to find something in the humor line for that patron who thinks Erma Bombeck is too cheeky? Ledbetter's second book may fill the bill. With her short takes on suburban life, kids and grandkids, clothes shopping for the fortysomething body, and similar Bombeckian topics, Ledbetter elicits smiles and chuckles of bemused recognition from readers. It's not exactly "hilarious" or especially "hip," as claimed by the jacket copy. Still, this would be a good, safe choice for the humor shelves of the average public library.-Pamela R.
