The new go-to book of advice for graduates, with insightful advice from:

Eva Longoria
“Your degree is just a stepping-stone.”

John Legend
“It’s not wrong to be afraid.”

Bear Grylls
“The path less traveled always makes for a more interesting journey.”

Andy Cohen
“When I got my first job, I felt like a success.”

Lauren Bush Lauren

Blake Mycoski
“When you are good at something, the money always follows.”

And many more . . .

Graduation is a time of tough questions whose answers we don’t—and sometimes can’t—know the day we receive our diploma. Determined to power through the uncertainty of post-graduation, bestselling author Katherine Schwarzenegger embarked on a yearlong quest to gather the best guidance possible from more than thirty highly successful people working in fields like business, media, fashion, technology, sports, and philanthropy.

Along the way, Katherine uncovered the essential and often surprising advice they have for graduates, including answers to questions like:

• How do I find my first job in a tough economy?
• How do I decide between a career that pays well and one that I’m passionate about?
• How do I balance work with friends, relationships, and family?
• Should I take a “gap year” before starting  my first job?
• What should I do about my student loan debt?

Drawing on the stories and real-life experiences of contributors such as Anderson Cooper, Eva Longoria, Blake Mycoskie of TOMS shoes, Lauren Bush Lauren, Andy Cohen, Meghan McCain, Gayle King, and more, Katherine has written the must-have guide for recent and soon-to-be graduates as they prepare to seek success and fulfillment in their work, relationships, and lives.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

"Three million kids graduating and 2.4 million will be moving back in with their parents." Unless you have prepared for the next steps, Graduation Day can feel like the last step before the precipice. The good news is that it doesn't have to be. Katherine Schwarzenegger (yes, she is the daughter of "The Governator") decided that the best way to avoid post-college panic is to tap the experiences of women and men who have been there and gone beyond. Her lineup of contributors is impressive, including everyone from CEOs and entrepreneurs to actresses, publishers, talk show hosts and the heads of humane charities. One of those gifts that will be remembered.

Daughter of you-know-who and already a best-selling author (Rock What You've Got), recent college grad Schwarzenegger aims to give fellow graduates basic, desperately wanted advice on what to do next. To that end, she talked to others who have successfully negotiated these shoals, from Lauren Bush and Andy Cohen to Eva Longoria and Blake Mycoskie.

Advice for one of life's most important transitions: stepping out into the "real" world after four years of college. Of course, it is not an easy task for anyone, and leaving that insulated world with no clue of the future can be daunting. "Not getting a job right out of college felt like the lowest point in my life, but what it really did was force me to learn so much about myself," writes Schwarzenegger (Rock What You've Got: Secrets to Loving Your Inner and Outer Beauty from Someone Who's Been There and Back, 2010). Here, she chronicles her interviews with men and women who successfully navigated the often unnerving moments of post-college life. From Anderson Cooper to DJ Armin van Buuren to the founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes, Candace Nelson, each interviewee expresses his or her aha moment, when they found their passion and followed it to the fullest, despite setbacks and bad odds, and launched into a career they truly enjoy. Some chose not to attend school but jumped into the fray and used life as their education; others worked in crummy jobs to pay the bills while consistently chugging forward on their personal goals; some wound up in places and jobs they'd never dreamed of simply due to the fact that they were open to all possibilities. As fashion model and designer Lauren Bush Lauren writes, "a college degree isn't what makes you smart; it's curiosity and the desire to seek answers and practical knowledge to help guide you in your field of choice." Each narrative shows the emotional doubts, anxieties and joys felt while starting a company, becoming a philanthropist or climbing the corporate ladder. Although geared toward young college graduates, the advice is relevant to anyone who's been laid off from work or is in search of a new direction in life. Other contributors include Eva Longoria, Bear Grylls and Jillian Michaels. Inspirational tidbits on work and life from productive and happy people from diverse backgrounds.
