Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Miranda McClain
Trying something new isn't always easy, especially when all one's friends seem to be better at whatever is being tried, but Kenzie doesn't let that get her down. She is a student at the Victory School, a special school for super athletes. Kenzie and her classmates are at Triumph Mountain learning winter sports like skiing and snowboarding. After a dismal failure on her ski's Kenzie is ready to give up but when she meets Zoey, who introduces her to snowboarding things start looking up. Kenzie is normally a gymnast and she finds that her strength and gymnastics skills are a perfect fit on a snowboard and she is a natural on the halfpipe. The last laugh comes when the rest of her classmates get their turn to try snow boarding. The fast pace, short chapters, and colorful Manga style illustrations in the Victory School Superstars books by Sports Illustrated Kids will attract reluctant readers and the glossary in the back helps with vocabulary. There is even information on the sport of snowboarding at the back for readers who would like to learn more. Reviewer: Miranda McClain
