Children's LiteratureOne of six books in the "Where I Live" series designed for beginning readers, this entry features snapshots of small town life. Large, brief text accompanies each full-page color photo as the reader follows a first-person account of a youngster's view of his or her hometown. Small town life such as playing in a park, swimming in a pool or knowing one's neighbors is showcased. Perhaps youngsters will not notice but in one photo the town is flat and in others it is mountainouswhich does not make sense. Some of the full-page photos are blurry, and there is a lack of continuity about the photos. It is truly a photo-album look at small town life with nothing to draw the reader in or interest them in what is going on. Some repetition of words would be helpful to early readers. A glossary, index and information for further study are provided. 2004, Weekly Reader Early Learning Library, Ages 5 to 7.
