Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
As Meister points out in her brief text, rocks are everywhere and they are formed in a variety of shapes and weights. Some rocks are heavy, while others, like pumice, are light enough to float. Some rocks are used to make glass (silica/fine sand), while others may be beautiful gems such as diamonds or simply used as building materials for homes. As an early reader, it provides some information but might have been more informative with a little more factual detail rather than the constant repeating of "I love rocks!" Categorized as appropriate for kids at the early fluent reading level, each page is filled with cartoon-style illustrations of a young girl and her pet rock hound. This is a Rookie Reader, Level B. 2001, Children's Press, $18.00 and $7.00. Ages 5 to 7. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
