Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"With plenty of repetition and sight words, Walker makes good use of rhyme. The colored-ink illustrations are set against ample white space and give the book an airy feel. The story lines are simple enough for toddlers to understand, and the books will also appeal to budding readers."—School Library Journal
Children's Literature - Claudia Mills
In this extremely simply story by the Australian author-illustrator of I Love Birthdays, I Love My Mom, I Love My Dad, and I Love Christmas, young zebra Ollie heads off on a seaside vacation with his doggie friend, Fred. We see Ollie busy toting beach toys, gathering shells, splashing in the water, frolicking in the waves, floating in a boat, snorkeling past fish and turtles, picnicking on the sand, slurping ice cream, and finally snuggling in his sleeping bag together with his friend. Walker's spare rhyming text is rhythmically soothing—"I pick up shells and splash by the sea. I love the waves and the waves love me!"—and her ink-and-watercolor illustrations offer plenty of restful white space on each quiet page. A lovely celebration of summer pleasures shared in the company of one dear friend, perfect for reading together on a lazy summer afternoon, with nearby waves softly lapping. School Library Journal
PreS-K—Ollie, an adorable zebra with soft gray stripes, returns in these titles. He loves to dance loudly as well as quietly, and to shake his "wobbly belly." He loves to sing anywhere: on the stairs, in the bathtub with a cup of tea, in the lemon tree. On vacation, Ollie eats ice cream, loves "sandy sandwiches," listens to owls hooting, and goes sailing. And whatever he does, his best buddy, Fred, a dog wearing a red collar, is along for the fun. With plenty of repetition and sight words, Walker makes good use of rhyme. The colored-ink illustrations are set against ample white space and give the book an airy feel. The story lines are simple enough for toddlers to understand, and the books will also appeal to budding readers.—Kris Hickey, Columbus Metropolitan Library, OH
