Overview

Maddy Wainright has given up on marriage—and men. After dating way too many losers who aren't capable of appreciating her for who she is, she's about ready to resign herself to a life of spinsterhood. Until her insanely rich boss Daniel Thorne comes along with an offer she simply can't refuse.

He proposes a marriage of convenience—one that would allow Maddy to live in the lap of luxury for a year and Mr. Thorne to stay in the country that has become his home. At the end of their arrangement, Maddy will walk away with a cool two million dollars. All she has to do is move into his penthouse, put on a convincing show in public, and endure a few INS interviews, for which she will be thoroughly prepped. It's a big risk, but one Maddy might just be willing to take, considering the payoff.

At first, it's all business. But when the gentle touches, passionate kisses, and lingering looks they have to give each other in public start spilling over into their private life, Daniel and his devious mind take Maddy to heights of pleasure she's never experienced. And the more she gets to know him, the more she feels that wistful tug in her chest every time he puts his arm around her in public. Before long, she finds herself wishing it were real.

As time goes on, Maddy finds herself wondering if two million dollars will be enough to cover the cost of repairing a broken heart. But Mr. Thorne may have yet another secret in store . . .

    Not worth $2.98

I've never written a review, but I felt I had to with this book. The story had a lot of potential, unfortunately the writing was bad. Just one example, I have no clue what the characters look like, because they are never described. No hair color, eye color, height, nothing. She writes at some point that Daniel is so attractive, but I have no idea how. There's no real conflict, everything just seems to fix itself right away. At one point, she even refers to the same character by two diffetent names. Save your money. The story is disjointed, hanging on by a very small thread.

Loved the cute scenes with Daniel and Maddy. Not the longest read but emotional and intense in many parts. I was satisfied.

This romance was like a coloring book page before it is colored

This romance was like a coloring book page before it is colored in--the outline of the picture is charming but it is missing all the hues and vibrancy that really makes it come alive.

This writer is very promising and I hope to read books by her in the future that are not missing the detail and the follow through of a full piece. I was disappointed when I reached the end of the story that so little was resolved in terms of conflicts in the story. We do get the start of a nice HEA but then I discovered that there are several books to go in the series on this couple.

I did not find them a compelling enough couple because of the missing pieces nor the nature of this contemporary romance to need several books to follow them. While this isn't quite a serial as there is no cliffhanger, I still wish it had been a complete novel--all in one.

The missing parts--Why doesn't Maddie have any friends outside the disappeared Lisa?  What is the backstory exactly of his previous deal? ... There are tons of these threads.

    Sigh.

    It has potential

It has the makings of a good read. You really dont feel the characters. The characters just weten't fleshed out enough to understand the motivations. No depth. I was hoping for more of a complicated storyline. It does have detailed sex scenes so it is a porno in written form with a lot grammar errors and typos.

    Good

I had a hard time deciding on the star rating for this. It's slightly above average. It's a tad disjointed in places, dragged in a few places... and there seemed to be more fighting and silence between them then falling in love so I had a hard time buying this sudden we're in love book over ending. And then the random ex appearance was just a waste of time. And no mention of why maddy was so "broken" about marriage. For being 1100 of actual reading there wasn't a lot of get to know you moments or feeling like they were connecting.....

I really wanted to give more than a two-star rating ... but I couldn't.  What did Maddy and Daniel look like, I think Daniel had green eyes - but I'm not even sure of that.  I've NEVER read a book where the author did not take the time to describe what the main characters looked like.  Blonde? Brunette?  Bald? Tall?  Short?  Thin? Fat?  It is extremely difficult to read a book and you can't imagine in your mind what the couple looks like. This could have been a really good story, but nope the author dropped-the-ball.  This is the first and last book by the author I will buy.  Glad it was Free!

Three and a half stars. A nice fantasy story of regular working girl hooks up with attractive rich boss. Very light on the intimate scenes, suggestions of dom/sub but nothing really offensive. It's a short quick read for when you don't want something heavy; have to agree with other reviews that the end could have been developed a little more for the feel-good ending.

    Warning: consensual explicit BDSM

When I read "steamy' in a review, I don't expect bondage and spanking scenes. This should be made clear in the book blurb. That said, there are other issues of plot and characterization lacking, as others have noted. The characters jump into sex despite both stating that they will not have a sexual relationship. There's no justification provided, other than mutual attraction, which makes them slightly unappealing to me. Too many loose ends are left at the end. This should be a longer book that fleshes out the story, not multiple short books. I feel unsatisfied as a reader. I am glad this was free. I won't buy more of this author's work.

    Unexpectedly wonderful

Despite the premise of a typical romance, I was pleasantly surprised by the creative plot despite its typical premise. A great read!!!
